During Friday prayer services, the imam “called on the faithful to ‘discipline’ the errant behavior of their spouses by acts of physical and psychological violence,” said the police statement.“He provided concrete examples of the manner in which wives should be beaten, how to isolate them inside the family home and how to deny them sexual relations,” said the police, saying they had received testimony to the effect from numerous witnesses.
Some 1,500 people usually attend Friday sermons by this particular imam in Terrassa, a city of some 200,000 residents in Spain’s northeast, which is home to a large Muslim community.

The Media Myth of Córdoba

Unfortunately for the credulous and gullible amongst us, the entire story is bogus. The myth of “the Golden Age of Islam” in Iberia is just that, a myth. (Andrew Bostom plucks this goose here on the Gates of Vienna)

The proposed construction of the “Cordoba” mega-mosque near Ground Zero has served as a catalyst for a renewed interest in the history of Cordoba under Islamic rule in Al-Andalus (Spain). Many of those who are opposed to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf’s presumed “bridge building” initiative, as represented by the project first called Cordoba House and now renamed Park51, have gone back to the history books, or have decided to speak out and address the purport of the designation: “Cordoba.” For instance, Victor Davis Hanson in a recentinterview [1] alludes to “the rather silly evocation of Cordoba; in toto, it was not really a utopian medieval city of understanding.” And Lisa Graas shows [2] that “things started out rather bad under Muslim rule…and went downhill over time…The history for us is clear and it is a history that no Catholic would like to see a repeat of in Manhattan.” Cordoba Jews fared better for a time, as Jane Gerber lavishly chronicles in The Jews of Spain [3], but they too eventually fell victim to persecution. Even the renowned Jewish sage Moses Maimonides [4] was forced to flee the city, escaping to Fez where he lived for years disguised as a Muslim.

And yet all this should have been evident in the weeks and months  after the Twin Towers were destroyed and nearly three thousand people were murdered by so-called “Islamist” terrorists. For it would not take long before Muslim and non-Muslim apologists for the “religion of peace” would hearken back to the ostensibly genial and temperate era of Moorish Spain, a time, we were instructed, when Christians and Jews were welcomed by their Muslim overlords and peacefully integrated into the life of the realm, permitted to worship freely and even received into the learned professions, many as katibs (secretaries) to the Caliph. Such conjurings by journalists and pundits constituted nothing less than an intellectual embarrassment. Mutatis mutandis, these fairy tale votaries resembled an updated version of Danny Kaye and crew singing “Wonderful, Wonderful Copenhagen [5],” that “friendly old girl of a town.”

Mohammedan "Tourists" Storm Cordoba Cathedral, 2 Security Guards Seriously Injured

100 Mohammedan occupiers pretending to be tourists entered  Cordoba cathedral and started to curse unbelievers, an act they call  “praying”. When asked to stop, they attacked the security guards.

Of course the ban on Muslim prayer should remain inside the Cordoba cathedral — at least until the Hagia Sophia in Constantinople becomes a cathedral again. But what we see here are serious efforts of a Mohammedan reconquista, because land, once Islamic, belongs to allah for all time. Spain, (Al Andaluz for Mohammedans),  must be re-conquered at any cost.

To the Muslims, Spain is illegitimate, is to be destroyed, and “al-Andaluz” is to be restored in its place.
The 3/11 train bombings were but a warm-up. We will see more of this in the future. Stay tuned!

A confrontation between Muslim “tourists”  and guards employed by the Roman Catholic bishop at the world-famous Cordoba mosque cathedral saw two people arrested and two guards injured last night.

Trouble broke out when the visitors knelt to pray in the building, a former mosque turned into a Christian cathedral in the 13th century, where a local bishop, Demetrio Fernández, recently insisted that a ban on Muslim prayers must remain.

Half a dozen members of a group of more than 100 Muslims from Austria had started praying among the marble columns and coloured arches of the vast building when security guards ordered them to stop.

Moors Want Spain to Apologize after 400 Years

Socialist Spain plans no celebrations for  throwing out the Moors 400 years ago?  400 years of Mohammedan expulsion no reason to celebrate? WTF happened here?

The defeat of the Moors in 1492 and the expulsion of the Moriscos from 17th-century Spain has become a politically sensitive subject, with Osama bin Laden referring to it in repeated calls for the restoration of al-Andalus, the former Muslim kingdom in the Iberian Peninsula.

Madrid – On September 22, 1609, the regime of Spain’s King Philip III launched the expulsion of the country’s 300,000 Moriscos, as Muslim converts to Christianity were known. The firstexpulsion orders gave the Moriscos of the eastern region ofValencia three days to get to the nearest port, with no luggage other than what they could carry, after which delay they faced reprisals including death.

As Spain marks the 400th anniversary of the launch of the massexpulsion on Tuesday, it is widely regarded as an early example of ethnic cleansing and as a major loss that delayed the country’s development.

The government, however, is not commemorating the event that official Spain feels “uncomfortable” about, as novelist Juan Goytisolo put it.

Muslims known as Moors ruled parts of the Iberian Peninsula from the 8th to the 15th century.

Contrary to popular belief, most of the Muslim conquerors and settlers were not Arabs, but North African Berbers (Amazigh), and  many Spaniards of indigenous origin also converted to Islam.

Muslim Spain, which was known by the name of al-Andalus, was a beacon of high culture in medieval Europe, with its civilization peaking in the 10th century. (The myth of the Mohammedan “Golden Age”, read it here..)

The weakening and divisions among Spain’s Moorish kingdoms facilitated the Christian reconquest of the country, which was completed with the defeat of Granada to Catholic monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella in 1492.

The dhimmi, as these covenanted peoples were called, were granted religious freedom, not forced to convert to Islam. They could continue to be Jews and Christians, and, as it turned out, they could share in much of Muslim social and economic life. In return for this freedom of religious conscience the Peoples of the Book (pagans had no such privilege) were required to pay a special tax — no Muslims paid taxes and to observe a number of restrictive regulations: Christians and Jews were prohibited from attempting to proselytize Muslims, from building new places of worship, from displaying crosses or ringing bells. So much for a paradise of tolerance and multiculturalism. Historian Kenneth Baxter Wolf observes that “much of this new legislation aimed at limiting those aspects of the Christian cult which seemed to compromise the dominant position of Islam.” After enumerating a list of laws much like Menocal’s, he adds: “Aside from such cultic restrictions most of the laws were simply designed to underscore the position of the dimmîs as second-class citizens.”

Al Qaeda-Linked Suspects Arrested in Spain

(Bilbao, Spain) The Spanish Interior Ministry announced that 13+ alleged Islamist extremists (? are there any other ones?)  were arrested last night in the northern city of Bilbao. Twelve were identified as Algerian and one is an Iraqi.

All those arrested are accused of belonging to an organised criminal gang which sent part of its takings to the Islamic Magreb Al Qaeda group. Money raised in Spain from burglaries, drug trafficking, credit card falsification and even begging was allegedly sent on to Algeria.

Months-long investigations in run-of-the-mill crime fortunately led to the arrests. Police say that more arrests are possible.

Saudi king appeals for (more) tolerance (of Islam)

Critics have dismissed the gathering as a propaganda gimmick by the Saudis who, they say, are not best placed to host a meeting on religious tolerance.

Abdullah sees problems in the West: “Terrorism…, the breakdown of families, drugs, exploitation of the weak – all these are the consequences of a spiritual void.”

* Sure, brother. And only Islam can fix these things…

What really bugs the Sowdis:

The event takes place against a backdrop of tensions between the Islamic world and the West. They range from restrictions on the use of the veil by Muslim women in some European countries to cartoons regarded as blasphemous by Muslims and the unresolved Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

What, trouble in paradise? “Interfaith conference fails after argument between Muslims and Jews,” from Macau News, via DW July 18:

An interfaith conference which has been held in Madrid during the week has ended on a bad note with Muslims and Jews involved in a political argument.

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah had gathered followers of the world’s major faiths for the Madrid conference to seek religious reconciliation.

It has been reported that exchanges between Muslim participants and Jewish Rabbis turned to a discussion on Zionism and became overheated, almost leading to blows.

It was the first time Saudi Arabia had invited Jews to such a meeting and the aim was to avoid hot issues like the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Yes, first time—though, of course, the invite was not to their home, Saudi Arabia, which would have made the Saudi gesture that much more sincere. But then again, Jews and Christians are not welcome in the Muslim prophet’s home. So much for the King’s desire for “religious reconciliation.”

Al Andaluz: Saudi Arabia builds mosque, doesn't pay workers


SPAIN: SIT-IN IN FRONT OF SAUDI CONSULATE OVER MOSQUE DEBT
(ANSAmed) – MADRID, JULY 16 – The employees of some 15 companies which have funded the mosque built two years ago by Saudi Arabia in Malaga staged a sit-in today in front of the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Andalusiàs city in order to claim the payment of the due arrears. According to trade union sources, citied by the local media, the protest takes place simultaneously with the world conference on inter-religious dialogue, organised by Saudi Arabiàs King and officially opened today in Madrid. The sit-in of the workers in front of the Consulate will stay for a few hours every day until the closure of the conference in Madrid. According to the sources, the total debt contracted by Saudi Arabia with some 15 companies from the plumbing, carpentry, air conditioning and equipment sectors amounts to one million euro, which the workers have claimed for two years, when the works on the mosque were completed at Avenida de Ingeniero de la Torre Acosta, in Malaga. The construction of the temple, for which an investment of 24 million euro was initially envisaged, required six million euro more due to changes during the construction.
