Pakistan to US: give us your money, but don't ask us to stop supporting terrorism…

Paktribune

ISLAMABAD: Steps by the United States to vastly expand its aid to Pakistan, as well as the footprint of its embassy and private security contractors here, are aggravating an already volatile anti-American mood as Washington pushes for greater action by the government against the Taliban.

Critics complain the bill could authorize the U.S. to broaden airstrikes in the country and interfere in Pakistan’s nuclear program.

“The tone and tenor of the bill in terms of conditionalities is not just intrusive, it’s also overbearing and bordering on the humiliation of Pakistan,” said Mushahid Hussain, a leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q. “We are not being treated kindly.”

Billions in US aid sparks debate in Pakistan

Pakistan Sends Surrendered Taliban to Wage Terror in India…

An aid package of $1.5 billion a year for the next five years passed by Congress last week asks Pakistan to cease supporting terrorist groups on its soil and to ensure that the military does not interfere with civilian politics. President Asif Ali Zardari, whose association with the United States has added to his unpopularity, agreed to the stipulations in the aid package, says a report published in the New York Times.

But many here, especially in the powerful army, object to the conditions as interference in Pakistan‘s internal affairs, and they are interpreting the larger American footprint in more sinister ways.

In a public statement, the American ambassador, Anne W. Patterson, suggested last week that Pakistan should eliminate the Afghan Taliban leader, Mullah Omar, a onetime ally of the Pakistanis who Washington says is now based in Baluchistan, a province on the Afghanistan border. If Pakistan did not get rid of Mullah Omar, the United States would, she suggested.

Reinforcing the ambassador, the national security adviser, Gen. James L. Jones, said Sunday that the United States regarded tackling Qaeda sanctuaries in Pakistan as “the next step” in the conflict in Afghanistan.

The Pakistani army chief, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, in an unusually stern reaction last week, said that missile attacks by American drones in Baluchistan, as implied by the Americans, “would not be allowed.” Read the whole thing, here>>

Fitzgerald: Pakistan: A Brief And True Relation

The misplaced faith in Pakistan exhibited by many in Washington is not new; it has been going on for fifty years, ever since the first early infatuation, by various Dulles brothers and American generals, with fly-whisking ramrod-straight terry-thomas-moustachioed generals who kept assuring the Americans that “Islam is a barrier to Communism” and allowed themselves to be compared — favorably — with bandung-conferencing, new-left-book-club-subscribing, Krishna Menon (India’s foreign minister) and supercilious Jawaharlal Nehru.

It started with Pakistan as part of that farcical military alliance, CENTO, with Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Pakistan as the stout defenders of the West against atheistic Communism. That West, represented by Great Britain and the United States, supplied all the arms and all the money. The thing collapsed in 1958, having hardly existed, with Qassem’s coup in Iraq, and “strongman” Nuri es-Said’s body being dragged through the streets of Baghdad for further mutilation.

But the love affair, entirely unrequited, with Pakistan continued. The Americans sold weapons and even advanced planes. But Pakistan took those weapons and used them to threaten, or even to make war on India in repeated campaigns, and Pakistan military’s support for terrorism in Kashmir did not begin yesterday, or the day before.

The misuse of American aid, and the dawning understanding, among some in the Senate, led to the Pressler Amendment. But unfortunately, those who had over slow time begun to really understand Pakistan’s treachery, such as Senator Glenn, did not have a way to pass on that understanding to their successors. The Senate had no institutional memory, and lessons learned by some in Congress were forgotten when they left the scene.

Snake in the house: Fareed Zakaria advises Obama on a "post American" world

Let’s buy off the Taliban!

Since it purportedly works so well in other contexts, why not line the coffers of the Taliban too? Isn’t it poverty that motivates them, anyway?

Here on Winds of Jihad we exposed  the smarmy, slimy CNN-News-wipe Muslim Fareed Zakaria, on quite a few occasions: Zakaria was born in Mumbai, India to a Muslim family. His father, Rafiq Zakaria, was a politician associated with the Indian National Congress and an Islamic scholar.

Unfortunately, the kumbaya crowd cannot get enough of little Fareed.  It is disheartening that 8 years after 9/11 our enemies have infiltrated every level of government and even cook the news for us:

“The Way Out of Afghanistan: We need to buy off our enemies” –– Jizya madness at Newsweek by Fareed Zakaria, September 12, via JW:

It’s time to get real about Afghanistan. Withdrawal is not a serious option. The United States, NATO, the European Union, and other nations have invested massively in stabilizing the country over the past eight years, and they will not–and should not–abandon it because the Taliban is proving a tougher foe than anticipated. But it’s also time for the Obama administration to get real about the country…

Huh? Not dead?

Jihad leader Mehsud ain’t dead, he’s just hiding, says Taliban

Jihadists never die, they just smell funny…

And he may be, too. After all, the most famous Undead Jihadist, Osama bin Laden, was widely rumored in 2003 and 2004 to be enjoying his virgins, only to turn up again just before the election to cast his vote for John Kerry. Only time will tell.

An update on this story. “Baitullah Mehsud alive, in hiding: Pakistan Taliban,” from the Economic Times, August 8

Top’s not off either…

Tim Blair – Sunday, August 09,

Earlier reports of terrorist Noordin Mohammed Top’s eradication may be wrong, although some remain convinced:

“The man shot dead in ?Temanggung is Noordin,” a senior anti-terror officer involved in the operations told the New Sunday Times.

“We are now waiting for DNA tests, expected within a week, for a?100 per cent positive confirmation of Noordin’s identity.”

However:

Another top anti-terror officer said the dead person is not Noordin but Boim Ibrahim, a suspect in the July 17 twin bombings of the JW Marriott and Ritz- Carlton Hotel.

Doubts over the identity of the dead idiot now awaiting an autopsy in Jakarta arose following publication of post-shootout photographs:

Pictures that began circulating several hours after the raids suggested the corpse flown to the national police hospital in Jakarta yesterday afternoon did not resemble police photographs previously published of Top.

Comparisons are rendered slightly difficult by the fact that Top (or Boim, the non-Top) is currently missing the top of his head. He’s topless. Terrorism analyst Sidney Jones:

“Apparently, he’s not dead,” said Ms Jones. “The legend continues.”

The U.S. keeps paying tribute to failed Islamic nations

Obama increasing jizya to Jordan and other Muslim countries

Because we all know that Islamic countries have no sources of income of their own. If Jordan is really in economic trouble, it certainly can’t look to, say, Saudi Arabia for help. After all, everyone knows how poor the Saudis are. And it is, of course, the Infidel’s place to pay tribute — to “pay the jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued” (Qur’an 9:29). Obama seems all too willing to oblige.

“Obama Increasing Aid to Jordan, Other Muslim States,” by Nissan Ratzlav-Katz for Israel National News, June 20 (thanks to LGF2) via JW

(IsraelNN.com) In the latest in a recent series of increased American assistance efforts for Arab and Muslim states, U.S. President Barack Obama has allocated an additional $150 million to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The regimes leading Egypt, the Palestinian Authority, the United Arab Emirates and even Saudi Arabia have all benefited from recent American policy shifts….On another front, in March of this year, it was reported that the Obama administration planned to dramatically increase funding to the Palestinian Authority for security training, which is conducted by Jordanian police under the supervision of U.S. General Keith Dayton. The U.S. allocated $75 million for the PA police training in 2008, but reports indicated that the Obama administration was planning to pump up to $130 million into the program in 2009. In any event, the U.S. has already pledged $600 million in funds to the Palestinian Authority, with another $300 million for humanitarian aid to the Hamas regime in Gaza.

Elsewhere in the region, the U.S. is set to help the United Arab Emirates become the first Arab nation with a developed nuclear power infrastructure. President Obama gave his official support and authorization for the $41 billion project, allowing private U.S. companies to compete for construction contracts.

In Pakistan, the U.S. president proposed $2.8 billion in aid for that nation’s military, alongside civilian aid of $1.5 billion a year for the next five years. The military aid is ostensibly to allow the Pakistanis to more effectively fight jihadist and al-Qaeda terrorism emanating from the Swat Valley and along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border….

Yet Pakistan has played a double game with that aid for years.

Gaddafi Circus Comes to Italy: Grievance Theater & Compo-Demands Follow Instantly…

Richard Owen in Rome/Times/Links thanks to Gates of Vienna

Gaddafi, who has a women-only corps of bodyguards, held a similar meeting on a visit to Paris in 2007 with 1,000 selected women guests, who were told he wanted to “save European women.” More>>

Colonel Gaddafi has arrived in Rome at the start of an historic visit to Libya’s former colonial masters with an archive photograph provocatively pinned to his chest showing the arrest of an anti-Italy guerrilla fighter dubbed “The Lion of the Desert”.

The photograph shows the arrest in 1931 by colonial Italian troops of the Libyan guerrilla leader Omar al Mukhtar. Al Mukhtar’s frail elderly son, who descended the aircraft steps with difficulty just behind Gaddafi in traditional white Arab robes, is part of the 300-strong delegation accompanying the Libyan leader. A Libyan financed 1980s feature film on the anti colonial struggle, The Lion of the Desert, was recently broadcast on Italian television for the first time.

Officials from both Libya and Italy insist that despite the anti-colonial gesture, the colonel’s three day trip – his first since gaining power in a coup 40 years ago – is a “visit of reconciliation”. Wearing full colonel’s uniform with gold epaulettes, numerous medals, sunglasses and straggly long black hair beneath a military cap, the Libyan leader said “a page of the past has been turned, thanks to the courage of Italy”, as he embraced Silvio Berlusconi, the Prime Minister.

Jiziya and Dhimmitude in Pakistan

Occupiers can change nationality, says Qorei
Mohammed Mar’i | Arab News —

  • From our “why can’t we all just get along” department:
RAMALLAH: Ahmed Qorei, the head of Palestinian negotiating team with Israel, said that Jewish occupiers could live under Palestinian law and can become Palestinian citizens. “(Former US Secretary of State) Condoleezza Rice told me she understood our position about Ariel but that Ma’aleh Adumim (an Israeli settlement in part of the West Bank that would become part of a Palestinian state) was a different matter,” Qorei said in an interview yesterday with the Israeli daily Haaretz.

“I told her, and (former Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi) Livni, that those residents of Ma’aleh Adumim or Ariel who would rather stay in their homes could live under Palestinian rule and law, just like the Israeli Arabs who live among you. They could hold Palestinian and Israeli nationalities. If they want it — welcome,” Qorei said when asked if Israel would agree to evacuate Ma’aleh Adumim’s 35,000 occupiers.

payjiziyaThe jiziyah is to be paid on demand, while the dhimmi must feel humiliated and subdued. The dhimmi has to tremble with fear and will be struck behind the jaw-bone while being spat at. The Muslims curse him…

“Israeli settlements in the heart of the territories would be a recipe for problems. Israel evacuated all the settlements in Yamit and in the Gaza Strip. All the prime ministers who negotiated with Syria, including Netanyahu, agreed to evacuate all the settlements from (the Golan) Heights. So why is it so difficult for you to evacuate the settlements in the West Bank?”Qorei added that “negotiating the annexation of Ariel to Israel is a waste of time. Ma’aleh Adumim and Givat Ze’ev must also be part of Palestine. Any agreement must guarantee our territorial contiguity; leave historical sites in our hands, especially Jerusalem, as well as natural resources, especially water.”
