Torquemada would be proud of Macquarie University. Students at its law school enrolled in a legal subject called Age and The Law have been told they will fail part of their law degree if they refuse to deliver an Acknowledgment of Country when presenting an oral assessment.

This is compelled political speech. No ifs. No buts. This is a person in authority at Macquarie Law School telling non-Indigenous students that if they don’t deliver an Acknowledgment of Country, or if they belong to the local tribe, a Welcome to Country, in the fashion prescribed by the marker, they fail. No debate welcome.

If you use the compulsory words but don’t utter them with sufficient reverence, you still fail. Big Brother, or in this case maybe Big Sister – Associate Professor Dr Holly Doel-Mackaway runs the course – is apparently going to assess your feelings.

And the victim of an Islamic State jihadi rapist recalled: “He told me that according to Islam he is allowed to rape an unbeliever. He said that by raping me, he is drawing closer to God…He said that raping me is his prayer to God.” In India, a Muslim kidnapped and raped a 14-year-old Hindu girl, and forced her to read the Qur’an and Islamic prayers. In Pakistan, another Christian woman recounted that her rapist was also religious: “He threw me on the bed and started to rape me. He demanded I marry him and convert to Islam. I refused. I am not willing to deny Jesus and he said that if I would not agree he would kill me.” Rapists demanded that another girl’s family turn her over to them, claiming that she had recited the Islamic profession of faith during the rape and thus could not live among infidels.

Ahead of Rosh Hashana, the widely unpopular Burnham government, replacing the widely unpopular Starmer government, decided to spend its time attacking the Jewish State. This seems like a strange preoccupation for a government where the public is concerned with affordability and the mass invasion of Muslim migrants, but perhaps that’s the point.

Thus far, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband gave an extensive speech denouncing Israel. Prime Minister Andrew Burnham, who as mayor of Greater Manchester had been complicit in the plague of Muslim rape gangs, claimed that ‘We will always stand with the underdog,” meaning the tiny minority of 400 million Muslim Arabs over the mighty majority of 6 million Jews.

The Labour Party issued a bulletin declaring that the “situation in Palestine is a moral emergency.” Unlike say the situations in Communist China, Pakistan or Bangladesh.

Apart from this lovely way of wishing happy new year to the Jewish community, this frenetic pandering reflects the political reality.

The UK government’s approval rating is at 21%. The disapproval rating is at 53%. And that’s the ‘honeymoon’ period for the new corrupt leader replacing the old corrupt leader. So time to change the subject to the Jews while pandering to Muslims who increasingly play the role of kingmakers in the Labour Party. (Americans are getting a taste of that lately with the Dems.) And make it seem like a heroic move to stand with the poor underdogs who have colonized the Middle East, parts of Asia, Africa and now the UK.

“Since it’s the 25th anniversary of 9/11, and since, for 25 years, we’ve been kept relatively safe from anything close to another 9/11, how about a hand for the Americans who made that happen? Because it didn’t just happen; there was a war on terror, and we won,” he said. “And yet so much has changed since 9/11; for example, back then we were against the terrorists.”

The audience laughed, but he was being serious.

The pattern shows that the media establishment many years ago concluded moral clarity amounted to a kind of bigotry and that to name an ideology responsible for mass murder was the same as harboring hatred towards all those who happen to share that ideology. A Yemeni asylum seeker living in the Netherlands cannot rely on family reunification rules to bring over children from two additional marriages that Dutch law does not recognize, ruled the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The ECHR dismissed the migrant’s complaint on Tuesday, holding that Council of Europe states are not required to treat polygamous family arrangements as they would a monogamous household.

The man, 56, has three wives and 13 children from those unions. After arriving in the Netherlands in 2018 and receiving asylum, he was allowed to bring one wife and their eight children.

Dutch authorities refused entry to the five children born of his other two marriages, citing that “polygamy is prohibited in the Netherlands.”

He lost his challenges in the Dutch courts and then turned to Strasbourg, according to French newspaper Le Figaro. He argued the case was not about importing polygamy, because he was not seeking to bring the other two wives, only the remaining children. The court rejected the argument that the refusal violated his right to respect for family life.

If a European state “establishes an immigration policy that takes family ties into account,” it “cannot be obliged to recognize polygamous marriages that conflict with its own legal system,” the judges in Strasbourg ruled.
