How did Omani pilot get clearance to fly to Israel? Unanswered questions after the flydubai hijack scare

According to a colleague of the attacker, the Omani pilot prayed excessively throughout the day and refused to shake hands with women.

President Donald Trump hailed the extraordinary Flydubai rescue as “the most amazing story” Wednesday after speaking “at length” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while saying the co-pilot accused of stabbing the captain and attempting to crash the Israel-bound jet was “perhaps a terrorist.”

Trump recounted how the badly wounded captain managed to open the cockpit door before Israeli passengers overpowered the co-pilot as the Boeing 737 plunged thousands of feet, with one passenger briefly grabbing the controls before qualified pilots aboard the flight took over.

“It seems as though the co-pilot was perhaps a terrorist, or perhaps a whack-job, and he stabbed the pilot,” Trump said.

“Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster,” Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu spokesman Doron Spielman later provided a more detailed account, saying the bloodied captain used “the last moments of his energy” to activate the cockpit-door release while lying wounded on the floor, allowing passengers to rush inside.

The Omani Co-Pilot Was Not Employed in Israel

The co-pilot did not work for an Israeli company. Flydubai employed him in the United Arab Emirates.

Flydubai is based in Dubai. The airline recruits staff from across the world. An official company announcement said its workforce includes people from 144 nationalities. More than 1,500 qualified pilots work for the carrier.

An Omani citizen can therefore work for Flydubai without Oman having relations with every country served by the airline. The bigger issue concerns his assignment to the Israel route.

How Was He Cleared to Fly to Israel?

Israeli Transportation Minister Miri Regev reportedly demanded the suspension of Flydubai services after the incident. She also requested an investigation into the UAE-Israel aviation agreement.

Hebrew media reports cited by The Times of Israel said the agreement allows only pilots carrying passports from countries with diplomatic relations with Israel to land there.

Israeli authorities are reportedly investigating whether the Omani co-pilot held another passport. Dual citizenship could explain how he received clearance.

Yaniv Hayun returned safely to Israel with the other 173 passengers Wednesday evening, stepping off the replacement flight at Ben-Gurion Airport still wearing the white shirt stained with blood from the midair struggle aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073.

Israeli officials say the Omani co-pilot stabbed the captain and apparently attempted to crash the aircraft before Hayun and several other passengers fought their way into the cockpit.

“I grabbed the attacker, put him in a chokehold, and pulled him out,” Hayun said, according to Israeli news outlet Ynet. “I called the Israelis who were with us, jumped back in and pulled the controls. Then they opened the cockpit, and we saw blood, and someone had stabbed the pilot with a pocketknife,” the unnamed woman told the network via text message. It is believed that a violent altercation developed between the two pilots. The woman said that the Israeli passengers helped restrain an attacker along with members of the crew. “We prayed, ‘Shema Yisrael,’” she says. “There were also moments when we thought we weren’t going to make it out alive….”

On September 30, 2026, flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai International (DXB) to Tel Aviv (Ben Gurion/TLV) experienced a mid-air incident involving a violent altercation between the pilots (reports describe one stabbing the other, blood in/near the cockpit, screams, and passengers helping restrain the attacker). The plane transmitted emergency (7700) and then unlawful interference/hijack (7500) codes, descended sharply, diverted, and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. All passengers were reported safe.

‘More malfunctions’ in Israel’s early-warning system as strikes continue

There have been more Iranian strikes, more Hezbollah rockets, and more malfunctions in the system of early warnings, with sirens not going off. We saw that yesterday in Beit Shemesh, as a satellite station was hit.

The Israeli army says it is investigating all of that, but there is no doubt among Israelis that the strikes conducted by Iran against several radar stations in the region, especially US assets, have deprived Israel of a significant advantage in the early warning system.

There are concerns that these Iranian missiles are able to strike more and more targets in Israel, even though the military censor has kept a very tight lip on the details.

The Islamic Republic has turned Iran’s children and students into human shields and soldiers.

Security forces have repeatedly turned school campuses into staging grounds — parking armored vehicles, storing weapons, briefing riot units before they deploy against protesters.

During the January 2026 crackdown, Imam Ali High School in Arak was used exactly this way: motorbikes and armored vehicles lined up in the schoolyard before units moved out to suppress demonstrators.

Under international law, once a school hosts military hardware, it can lose its status as a protected civilian space — meaning the regime is putting children’s safety on the line for its own operations.

At the same time, the state is arming the children directly. Iran’s “Janfada” (self-sacrifice) program is training boys as young as 12 for checkpoint duty, surveillance, drone operation, and weapons handling.

Officials have confirmed that even younger kids will be brought in next because demand is high.

This is not a fringe accusation — Amnesty International has called the recruitment of 12-year-old child soldiers a war crime, after an 11-year-old was killed at a checkpoint alongside his father, a Basij member.

Militarized schools and militarized children are not two separate stories. It is one policy: a regime that treats its own kids as human shields when it needs cover, and as manpower when it needs bodies.

That is the story that should be spreading — not buried under war headlines.
