The Pros & Cons of the “Iran Deal”

Here’s the latest:

  • US Vice President JD Vance has said that the 60-day negotiating period between Tehran and Washington has begun today and the blockade of Iran’s ports has been lifted.
  • Earlier, US President Donald Trump and Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian have electronically signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war.
  • Israel kills three people in Lebanon as it continues its invasion of the south, despite the inclusion of an end to its occupation in the US-Iran interim agreement.
  • Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem has hailed the agreement as a “big victory” and said Lebanon’s negotiations with Israel should be limited to “mutual security” and not the armed group’s disarmament.

The Hawks Are Right That Iran Will Cheat… That’s the Point

The right has reached a verdict on President Trump’s memorandum of understanding with Iran, and the verdict is rage. Ben Shapiro went on Fox News and called the agreement “a disaster.” Erick Erickson, who spent the war defending it, pronounced the deal “an American surrender.” Sen. Ted Cruz warned that handing “billions of dollars to theocratic lunatics who want to murder us is not a good idea” and accused the president of receiving bad advice once again. The hawks are convinced their man capitulated to the mullahs.

Every Dollar Comes With a Leash

Read the financial terms closely and the alarm starts to look misplaced. The Treasury does not terminate sanctions under the memo; it issues waivers, and a waiver is a thing that can be withdrawn as easily as it was granted.

Iran’s frozen funds are not handed over in a duffel bag; their release runs through procedures still to be negotiated. The headline $300 billion that has the commentariat in a froth is not American money at all. As ZeroHedge laid out in detail, it is a proposed private investment fund, financed by Gulf states and multinational firms rather than the U.S. Treasury, and it functions only if sanctions relief, banking access, and a durable settlement actually materialize. Until Iran performs, the pledged capital is, by the fund’s own logic, theoretical.

  • The warning comes after Israeli forces killed four people in southern Lebanon, and Trump criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he has to be “more responsible” in Lebanon.

What About the Houthis?

From the Gates of Vienna

The Houthis in Yemen have generated a lot of news headlines since the Gaza war began, lobbing missiles into Israel and causing serious problems for international maritime traffic by attacking ships transiting the Bab-el-Mandeb off southern Yemen.

The Houthis (whose official name is now Ansar Allah) are a Shi’ite movement backed by Iran. They came into prominence during the Yemeni Revolution in 2011, which was an adjunct of the “Arab Spring” that had already swept Tunisia and Egypt. Their principal Sunni rivals within the radical Islamic ferment in Yemen were Al Qaeda and the Islamic State.

With assistance from Iran, the Houthis took over about a third of Yemeni territory, including the capital, Sana’a. Their stronghold is in southern Yemen, adjacent to the Red Sea, which is why they have been able to do so much damage to ships travelling to or from the Suez Canal.

Netanyahu says Israel will remain in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israeli forces will maintain a ‘security zone’ in occupied Palestinian, Syrian, and Lebanese territories.

Netanyahu said on Monday that the country’s forces would remain in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria “for as long as necessary,” hours after a deal was announced between Iran and the US to end the Middle East war.

“Free Palestine.” I grew up on those words. In Lebanon, most people around me wanted a free Palestine for a very practical reason — to send the Palestinian refugees back.

The civil war that tore my country apart was ignited in no small part by the Palestinian armed factions who turned Lebanon into their launching pad.

“Free Palestine” meant: free us from them. In Damascus, where my father’s family lived, the sentiment was different but equally self-serving. Palestine must be returned to the Arabs, its righteous owners.

No one asked follow-up questions. No one was expected to. Palestine was central to Islam, most Arabs are Muslim, therefore supporting the Palestinian cause was reflexive. A non-brainer in the most literal sense — no brain engaged at all.

Nobody stopped to point out that Palestine is not an Arabic word. Continue reading “Free Palestine”

Trump’s Iran Deal

 🇺🇸🇮🇷

None of it is true. Typical Iranian regime propaganda.

It’s basically an Iranian Wishlist calling for America’s surrender.

Update from Al Jazeera:

  • US President Donald Trump says a deal to stop the war on Iran could be signed as early as Sunday. Tehran has rejected the timeline but says the signing could happen in the “coming days”.

2. A commitment by the United States not to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs and to respect the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

3. Complete lifting of the maritime blockade within 30 days.

4. A commitment by the United States to withdraw its forces from around Iran. Continue reading Trump’s Iran Deal

What Israel Hit in Iran

Iran, trying to force the IDF to stop hitting Hezbollah sites in Beirut, launched 11 ballistic missiles at Israel on June 7. They were all intercepted, causing no damage. “Iran’s Military is a complete and total mess,” the U.S. president outlined on his Truth Social platform. “Much of it, like their Navy and Air Force, doesn’t even exist anymore — They have been completely defeated.”

“They’ve taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!” he added.

The US, Britain and 20 other nations said Iranian security groups must stop plotting to kill, kidnap, and harass people in Europe, North America, and Australia.
