Trump has repeated a demand for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, issuing what he says is a 48-hour deadline.
“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform. “Time is running out – 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them.”

Internet blackout in Iran stretches to 36 days
Connectivity watchdog NetBlocks reports that Iran’s internet has now been down for 35 days, a total of 840 hours, as it enters its 36th day.
- US-Israeli attacks have hit two petrochemical plants in southern Iran’s Khuzestan province, and one person has been killed in another strike on the Bushehr nuclear site.
- The UAE today bore the brunt of Iran’s retaliatory attacks on GCC countries, saying it responded to 23 ballistic missiles and 56 drones today.

For half a century, Western strategists have known that the Strait of Hormuz is the acute point where energy, sea power and political will intersect. That knowledge is not in dispute. What is new in this war with Iran is that the United States, under Donald Trump, has chosen not to rush to “solve” the problem. In Hegelian terms, he is refusing an easy synthesis in order to force the underlying contradiction to the surface.
The old thesis was simple: the US guarantees open sea lanes in the Gulf, and everyone else structures their economies and politics around that free insurance. Europe and the UK embraced ambitious green policies, ran down hard‑power capabilities and lectured Washington on multilateral virtue, secure in the assumption that American carriers would always appear off Hormuz. The political class behaved as if the American security guarantee were a law of nature, not a contingent choice. Their conduct today is closer to Chamberlain than Churchill: temporising, issuing statements, hoping the storm will pass without a fundamental reordering of their responsibilities.
Trump’s antithesis is to withhold the automatic guarantee at the moment of maximum stress. Militarily, the US can break Iran’s residual ability to contest the Strait; that is not the binding constraint. The point is to delay that act. By allowing a closure or semi‑closure to bite, Trump ensures that the immediate pain is concentrated in exactly the jurisdictions that have most conspicuously free‑ridden on US power: the EU and the UK. Spain should be kicked out of NATO

Long overdue!
For decades, the United States has carried this alliance on its back. We fund it. We defend it. We lead it. Meanwhile, too many member nations freeload, underinvest in their own defense, and still expect American protection. That era should be over. If NATO wants the United States, NATO needs to pay for the United States. Period.
And then there’s Spain.
If Spain is blocking U.S. access to bases and airspace during critical operations tied to Iran, that’s not just unhelpful. That’s betrayal. You don’t get to sit under the NATO umbrella while undermining the very country that makes that umbrella possible.
So here’s the line. Spain should be kicked out of NATO.
Not warned. Not negotiated with. Removed.
An alliance requires loyalty. If Spain won’t stand with America when it matters, they don’t belong. Let them see what defense looks like without the United States backing them.
