U.S. Must Confront Iran Over Human Rights Abuses in Upcoming Talks

June 26, 2025—Hundreds of ordinary citizens, members of religious and ethnic minorities, activists, and others are being rounded up and arrested in Iran as the Islamic Republic, facing its most serious challenge to date, moves to stamp out any trace of dissent and reassert its control.

Key Developments:

  • Over 700 individuals have been arrested across Iran in the past 12 days, with many hundreds more detained in Tehran. Checkpoints are set up in many cities to aid in arrests.
  • Six executions on espionage charges have been carried out just since the war began, with additional death sentences expected.
  • Detainees are being subjected to fast-tracked trials in kangaroo courts without lawyers or due process.

The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) calls on the Trump administration to forcefully raise these grave human rights violations in the upcoming negotiations with Iran and warn the Iranian authorities to immediately cease the domestic crackdown on its people.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said Iran will “never surrender” to the United States, striking a defiant tone in his first remarks since a ceasefire with Israel took hold.

Khamenei, 86, claimed victory after 12 days of war, culminating in an Iranian attack on the largest US military base in the Middle East, in Qatar, after the US joined the Israeli assault.

“The US President [Donald] Trump unveiled the truth and made it clear that Americans won’t be satisfied with anything less than surrender of Iran … such an event will never happen,” Khamenei said.

Opposition Leader Sussan Ley fronted the National Press Club yesterday to to say she is prepared to be a “zealot” for preselecting more women in winnable seats.
She inferred that a reason for the 2025 federal election loss was largely due to a lack of female candidates.

So let’s take a look – by most metrics, a winnable seat is one that is within 5% of being won by the other party.

After the 2022 election, this applied to 18 seats nationwide for the Coalition: Bennelong, Boothby, Brisbane, Curtin, Gilmore, Goldstein, Hunter, Kooyong, Lingiari, Lyons, Mackellar, McEwen, Parramatta, Paterson, Robertson, Ryan, Tangney and Wentworth.

And for those 18 seats – we had 9 males and 9 females.
So not only is Ley heralding illiberal solutions to this “woman problem” of preselected candidates, but it is a problem that doesn’t even exist in the first place.

Ley was the Deputy Opposition Leader for the last 3 years and instead of being introspective, she is footing the blame at the feet of grassroots members and saying she wants females to far outnumber male candidates.
Self responsibility for the election loss and the idea of merit seem to be forgotten in her “modern” Australia.
.
My suggestion: solving the “woman problem” might involve actually standing up for people like Moira Deeming, opposing the inclusion of biological males in women’s sport and suggesting that female candidates vying for preselection count for far more than their gender.

7 Israeli soldiers blown up by Hamas terrorist in deadliest attack on IDF in Gaza in months

Seven Israeli soldiers were blown up by a Hamas terrorist in one of the deadliest attacks on its armed forces in Gaza in months, the Jewish state announced Wednesday.

The soldiers were on patrol Tuesday in the southern city of Khan Younis when the terrorist attached a bomb to their armored vehicle, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
