Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was served a subpoena yesterday (23) about the criminal prosecution in the Supreme Court in which he is a defendant for the totally imaginary charge of ‘attempted coup d’état’.

The document was delivered by a court officer and signed by him around 1 pm, inside the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed of the DF Star hospital, in Brasília, where he has been hospitalized since the 12th.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to Hamas: ‘Sons of dogs, release the hostages’

The words of  Mahmoud Abbas, calling Hamas “sons of dogs” and telling them to “release the hostages,” will likely deceive the naive into believing that Abbas is a “moderate” who stands in defense of the hostages and even in defense of Israel’s right to exist, when the truth is that Abbas has run a pay-for-slay program to reward “martyrs” (and their families) for murdering Israelis. Abbas also denies the Holocaust,  does not actually recognize Israel’s right to exist, and seeks Israel’s destruction.

Abbas’ goal to taking aim at Hamas is rooted in the Palestinian Authority’s longstanding competition with Hamas to rule Gaza. Abbas has remained resolute that Hamas should not play a role in governing post-war Gaza, and he is positioning himself for the role in future. The Biden administration supported the Palestinian Authority in that vision.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir warned troops in Gaza today that unless a hostage agreement is reached soon, the military will escalate its operations against Hamas.
 
He emphasized that pressure on Hamas is ongoing and could intensify into a much broader campaign aimed at achieving their full defeat. Zamir directly blamed Hamas for launching the war, holding hostages in brutal conditions, and causing the suffering of Gaza’s population. He also said Hamas, like Hezbollah’s leadership, underestimates Israel’s capabilities and determination.

Manhunt under way in Kashmir after deadly attack on tourists

The attack in Indian-administered Kashmir came amid the peak tourist season and prompted global condemnation.

Security forces have launched a manhunt after gunmen opened fire on tourists and killed 26 people in Indian-administered Kashmir’s worst attack on civilians in almost a quarter of a century.

All those killed in Tuesday’s attack were listed as residents of India, except for one man from Nepal.

A statement issued in the name of The Resistance Front (TRF), which is believed to be an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.

The statement linked the attacks to the thousands of residency permits being handed over to Indian citizens, allowing them to settle in Kashmir. Al Jazeera could not independently confirm the statement’s authenticity.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the attack had been “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians” in recent years.

The bodies of those killed were brought to Srinagar by a fleet of ambulances on Wednesday as military helicopters soared overhead, searching the forested mountain flanks for signs of the attackers.

“This attack on our visitors is an abomination,” Abdullah said in a statement.

The killings led to global condemnation.

United States President Donald Trump called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to offer “full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous attack”.

China, which neighbours the troubled region, offered its “sincere sympathies” to the families of those killed.

Authorities in recent years have promoted the mountainous region as a holiday destination for skiing during winter and to escape the sweltering summer heat elsewhere in India.

About 3.5 million tourists visited Kashmir last year, mostly domestic visitors.
