Covid freedom fighter vows to appeal conviction

Leszek Kunc is fighting back in court after being denied justice.

One of Australia’s most dedicated Covid freedom fighters has been convicted in an unprecedented ruling.

Leszek Kunc, recognised for his vehement protest against Covid-19 restrictions, faced conviction for a Covid-related offence, marking his first ever criminal conviction.

The charges stemmed from an alleged breach of movement restrictions, with Leszec found more than 10km from his Melbourne residence.

Despite efforts to base his defence on constitutional issues, Leszek argues that the magistrate mishandled the case and denied him adequate defence opportunities.

He claims he was offered the opportunity to have charges withdrawn if he pled guilty, an offer he rejected outright, alleging corruption within the system.

“First, they try to bribe you,” he said.

His refusal resulted in a fine of $500 each for him and his wife, making them potentially the first Victorians criminally convicted for Covid-related fines.

Leszek is preparing to appeal against his conviction, casting a shadow on the lower court magistrates who he says are corrupt.

His case highlights the ongoing repercussions of Covid restrictions, with courts seemingly committed to convicting previously law-abiding citizens.

The government recently denied a request from Qatar Airways to boost the number of flights it operates into Australia. The airline was proposing to add 21 flights a week between Doha and Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. This would add about 7000 seats a week, and increased supply would exert downward pressure on the outrageous prices that air travellers are having to pay for international flights.
Without saying why, Transport Minister Catherine King stated: “The Australian government is not considering additional bilateral air rights with Qatar.” The tourism industry said Qatar doubling its capacity would lower the price of international airfares, which have remained high since Australia reopened its borders after the COVID-19 pandemic.

But according to Sky News host Peta Credlin, FOI documents released by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) earlier this year reveal that, contrary to Mr Albanese’s characterisation of the Uluru Statement as a “two-minute” read that can “fit on one A4 page”, the 2017 declaration is actually 26 pages.

The “full” Uluru Statement was included in a lengthy batch of NIAA documents, which also contains minutes from 13 “regional dialogue” consultation events with around 1200 Indigenous people that informed the final wording.
