Trudeau Accuses Elon Musk of “Attacking Independent Media Organizations” CBC is 69% government funded

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau openly accused Elon Musk of “attacking foundational Canadian institutions” Monday after Twitter slapped CBC, Canada’s mostly state-funded media outlet with a “government-funded” label.

Trudeau claimed that CBC is an “independent media organization,” despite the fact that it is almost wholly funded by the Canadian government.

The Canadian broadcaster is heavily government-funded, and everyone knows it. Nonetheless, CBC wasn’t happy about its new label, which caused its executives discomfort and embarrassment. The news spread fast across Canada and around the world. Jordan Peterson mocked the CBC:

According to the Associated Press, CBC sent a letter to Twitter “asking the company to re-examine the designation.” Elon Musk then tweeted this, given the dispute about what exact percentage of CBC money is from public funds:

Dutch prosecutor appeals against lenient sentences of jihadi brides who fled the Netherlands to join ISIS

The Dutch public prosecutor’s office (OM) has appealed against the sentences handed down last week by a Dutch court to five former ISIS brides who were repatriated to the Netherlands in February 2022.

The convicted terrorists were handed prison sentences between 16 months and three years after being found guilty of membership in a proscribed terrorist organization, namely the Islamic State, and for participating in the preparation of acts of terrorism.

The women each fled the Netherlands separately back in 2013 to join the Islamic State in Syria at the peak of its power. They married Islamic State fighters and lived in the caliphate for six years before being apprehended by Kurdish forces in 2019 and detained at the al-Roj Kurdish refugee camp in northern Syria.

Four of the women received prison sentences of between 30 and 36 months, of which 12 to 15 months were suspended, while a fifth woman was ordered to serve 16 months in prison, nine of which were also suspended.

The sentences were considerably less than the 42 to 48 months called for by the OM, with the court claiming to have taken into consideration the squalid conditions the women had lived in during their time in Syria.

The OM had previously stated that their sentences should be longer due to the length of time they had remained affiliated with the Islamic State; it claimed that all five women had made “an important contribution to the realization and maintenance of the caliphate.”

Additional aggravating factors used by the OM to justify their position include the fact that two suspects are understood to have taken their children to the conflict zone, and another traveled while she was knowingly pregnant. One woman’s decision to travel ultimately led to the death of her 16-year-old son.

The court ruled on all five cases on April 13; however, an appeal hearing may now be scheduled to determine whether the sentences imposed were proportionate to the severity of the offenses.

The Muslim migrants refused to eat pork and threw plates on the floor, resulting in more security guards and social workers being hired

Approximately 40 asylum seekers in Germany refused food in their asylum accommodation in the coastal city of Rostock, with some throwing their plates to the floor. The incident then escalated after certain migrants began threatening employees at the asylum accommodation, which resulted in a police operation being launched at the location to restore order.

According to a police report, a group of Afghan asylum seekers were served pork, which according to Islamic law, is forbidden to eat. However, the group of men did not just complain about the pork but also complained about what they said was the monotony of the food selection, wilted salad greens, and the sanitary conditions of the facility.

During the argument, some of the residents of the facility demonstrated loud and threatening behavior and threw their food to the floor. Police arrived on scene in 12 patrol cars, but no arrests were made. The facility currently houses 281 people.

On page 22 of the report, the UN states, “With respect to the enforcement of criminal law, any prescribed minimum age of consent to sex must be applied in a non-discriminatory manner. Enforcement may not be linked to the sex/gender of participants or age of consent to marriage.”

The Dutch public prosecution office has charged and will seek the extradition of a former Pakistani international cricketer for allegedly inciting the murder of Dutch conservative politician Geert Wilders, the office confirmed on Monday.

Wilders himself identified the accused as former opening batsman Khalid Latif.

The charge dates back to an online video published in 2018 in which the 37-year-old man offered €21,000 for the murder of a Dutch MP.

The video was published amid the controversy sparked by a competition advertised by Wilders for caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, a competition he canceled after receiving numerous death threats. He had planned to hold an exhibition of the anti-Islam cartoons inside the Dutch parliament.
