Victoria to roll out 40 machete disposal bins in statewide amnesty

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has been slammed after unveiling new “machete bins” as part of her failed response to the state’s violent crime and African gang crisis.
The Victorian Government has unveiled a machete amnesty ahead of the statewide ban in September.
The ban, initially announced at the start of the month, will make owning, carrying and buying a machete without a valid permit a criminal offence in Victoria.
The maximum penalty for those found guilty is two years’ imprisonment or a fine of more than $47,000.

Victorians will be able to dispose of their machetes at one of 40 safe disposal bins located around the state at police stations.
The amnesty period will run from September 1 to November 30, and people will be able to hand in a machete during this time without penalty.
“These knives destroy lives – so we’re taking them off the streets,” Premier Jacinta Allan said.
Sadly a 14-year-old boy has been hospitalised following a brutal machete attack at Werribee Plaza, marking the second knife-related incident at the Melbourne shopping centre in just two days. Labor’s soft-on-youth-crime approach over so many years now has machete gangs running rampant at shopping centres. So much for Labor’s bins to hand them in, we need jail time for possession and deportation for anyone on a visa. But of course Albo and his Labor team voted against this at a federal level. Labor’s approach means more lives will be destroyed in our neighbourhoods.

There are some exemptions in place, including agricultural workers who use machetes as part of their job.
Those who claim they use a machete in a traditional, historical or cultural capacity will be granted an exemption.
An interim sales ban on machetes in Victoria was announced in May.

Australia’s Left-Wing Govt. Rushes to Recognize Palestinian State

Australia’s left-wing Labor government confirmed Monday it will recognise a Palestinian state at the U.N. General Assembly next month, dismissing Israel’s call that such a move “rewards terrorism.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he had received firm commitments from the Palestinian Authority (PA) including to demilitarise, hold general elections and continue to recognise Israel’s right to exist, the BBC reports.

A mosque’s push to project the call to faith over loudspeakers in a western Sydney suburb has been dealt a significant blow after sparking concern among residents. 

The Canterbury-Bankstown Council has recommended a proposal to install loudspeakers at Sydney’s largest mosque in Lakemba be rejected, following strong community objection.

The $22,690 plan, submitted by the Lebanese Muslim Association, would see four speakers installed on Lakemba Mosque’s 20m minaret to broadcast the Islamic call to prayer every Friday for up to 15 minutes.

The Local Planning Panel met on Monday night to consider the recommendations, after the proposal drew mixed reactions from the local community.
