KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — The Malaysian government will issue a new decree restoring a ban on Christian publications using the word “Allah” to refer to God, officials said Sunday.
Home Affairs Minister Syed Hamid Albar said a Feb. 16 decree that let Christian publications use the word as long as they specified the material was not for Muslims was a mistake, the national Bernama news agency reported.
The about-turn came after Islamic groups slammed the government and warned that even conditional use of the word by Christians would anger Muslims in the largely Islamic country. (Can’t have “angry Muslims- what to do, what to do..?)
A senior ministry official confirmed Syed Hamid’s comments, saying there were “interpretation mistakes” in the Feb. 16 decree that led to the confusion.
“‘Allah’ cannot be used for other religions except Islam because it might confuse Muslims. This is the ministry’s stand and it hasn’t changed,” the official, who declined to be named citing protocol, told The Associated Press. (we can’t have “confused Muslims”- there are so many misunderstanders already…)
The dispute has become symbolic of increasing religious tensions in Malaysia, where 60 percent of the 27 million people are Muslim Malays. A third of the population is ethnic Chinese and Indian, and many of them practice Christianity.
Malaysia’s minorities have often complained that their constitutional right to practice their religions freely has come under threat from the Malay Muslim-dominated government. They cite destruction of Hindu temples and conversion disputes as examples. The government denies any discrimination. (Google Muslim lies, deception…)
The Herald, the Roman Catholic Church’s main newspaper in the country, had filed a legal suit to challenge the government ban on the word.
The Herald argued that the Arabic word is a common reference for God that predates Islam and has been used for centuries as a translation in Malay.
Officials from the Herald could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday.

Malaysia: Chair of Islamic Dawah Foundation calls on gov’t to rescind permission for Catholic paper to use “Allah,” lest it anger Muslims worldwide
Why would the chair of the Islamic Dawah Foundation be upset about this? After all, Qur’an 29:46 says:
“And argue not with the People of the Scripture unless it be in (a way) that is better, save with such of them as do wrong; and say: We believe in that which hath been revealed unto us and revealed unto you; our Allah and your Allah is One, and unto Him we surrender.”
However, that talking point is meant to be part of a one-way conversation — for dawah, or Islamic proselytizing. “Our Allah and your Allah” may be claimed to be the same “Allah,” but the message is ultimately: You’re worshiping our deity, but we’re doing it right, and you’re not. For that matter, the mention of that which has been “revealed unto us and unto you” is not a warm, fuzzy interfaith endorsement of the truth of non-Islamic scriptures, but an implication that the non-Muslims’ scriptures have been corrupted.
Obviously, then, under Islamic law, a Christian would be forbidden from preaching to Muslims in this way.

Well, I do it whenever I can on the blogs that I blog on. I have emailed the Pope (I doubt that he reads them – and yes, it might go to the ‘big bit bucket in heaven’, but at least I try. I try to tell him that by never rebutting that phrase, or studying islam and learning about deception, hudna, mohammed NOT being a prophet (about 10+ reasons), etc that it only emboldens the muslims to keep up their B.S.!
It misleads Catholics/Christians by not speaking up that islam is NOT part of Judaism and Christianity, and even creates appeasers/apologists which emboldens the muslims.
Some of the worst that I have to argue against are our own. These idiots usually never have an idea what the koran, and hadiths, say. They don’t have a clue as to mohammed’s life, islamic history of jihad, or anything about islam – but they are violent in their words to defend muslims/islam. They are disgusting.

Most of the people reading this newspaper in malay are native people on the island of Borneo, many of them in the state of Sarawak which is a very Christian area of Malaysia. A few years ago , the government attempted to ban a Bible in one of these native languages for the same reason. Yet people of ALL persuasions thru out the middle east have been using the term allah for god for centuries. Experts say that the problem is malaysians don’t really understand Arabic or the history of the word.
Malaysia likes to promote itself as a modern , islamic state but really all the hard work and enterprise there comes from its predominantly, non-muslim Chinese population.

In malaysia , it is very difficult for a muslim to leave islam or become a Christian or etc…you have to go the sharia court..you may go to prison..
I was told that the reason the govt are so strict about this , is because they fear a mass exodus. They think that if they make it easy to leave islam, thousands upon thousands will become Christians…islam always rules thru fear..
