“Less than a day after the failed attempt to bomb a plane that was flying over the U.S. city of Detroit, a different kind of hunt began – the hunt for the person who instructed Omar Abdulmutallab [to carry out the operation], the person who turned Abdulmutallab into a terrorist. Omar Abdulmutallab is a Nigerian man who left Nigeria young and innocent and left London a prepared terrorist.

I don’t beleive the “lonely” excuse. No way! I have seen many unattractive mullahs/imams (with long tatty beards, beady eyes and/or those scruffy wrap-around headscarves and robes) but this young nigerian has nice features! To illustrate my point please reference 1940′s Hollywood actor Earnest Borgnine who was hired to make the other stars look good. Or compare this terrorist’s features with Sidney Poitier’s, say, or Jimi Hendrix’s = good-lookers all.
What do they mean “academics?” I started my academic career during the Eisenhower era, allegedly one of the most (little “c” ) conservative and intellectually stifling periods of the past century. At that time I could identify among my campus yoke-fellows liberals, conservatives, communists, anarchists, socialists, fascists, monarchists, republicans, libertarians, jews, catholics, protestants, evangelicals, buddhists, hindus, sikhs … the variety was endless, all of whom enjoyed the unrestricted and scrupulously defended right to argue their beliefs without fear of intimidation or suppression.
Suddenly, the “liberating” ‘sixties were upon us; Overnight it seemed, a drab, suffocating and unforgiving groupthink pervaded every cubic angstrom of academia; no more reasoned debate, no more free exchange of ideas. One was relegated, arbitrarily and dictatorially, to one of only two available camps – “enlightened” or “fascist.”
I confess that I bailed out very early in the game, and made my life elsewhere. All my children have elected to attend university, and, although they are all highly intellegent, socially concerned, caring and successful adults, I am heartbroken to observe how they have been brainwashed into the extant Weltanshauung, despite their all having passed through twelve years of the Catholic school system.
