Last week Victorian DLP politician Peter Kavanagh earned a lot of ridicule, not least on ABC Melbourne 774, for histerribly unsophisticated attitude to Yusuf Islam, the Muslim singer once known as Cat Stevens:

Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini issued the religious decree calling for Muslims to kill Rushdie for alleged blasphemy in his novel The Satanic Verses in 1989.
“Cat Stevens seemed to support those threats against Mr Rushdie, he now says he was joking,” Mr Kavanagh said.
“But I think, before he comes into Australia, he should be required to say that he does not support threats against people for the expression of their opinions…”

But I’ve found one bit of tape that Stevens hasn’t yet managed to censor, and I’d like Faine to reconsider the ridicule he heaped on Kavanagh and to wonder at the mentality of a man who can speak on television of wanting Salman Rushdie burned or otherwise killed:
And, of course, repeated claims were made that anything Stevens had said about Rushdie was “out of context”.
Was it? The best way to judge what was said and its innocent context would be so see the video of Stevens making the alleged comments, but, oddly enough, Stevens has tried desperately to remove it from the public gaze, as you can see here and here.

Coulter suggests that a lot of people on the left have thrown out historical and conservative ideas and as such have lost their moral compass. They truly can’t judge for themselves what is wrong or right, and follow the church of “political correctness”.
This has helped me understand why the left will embrace the likes of David Hicks but despise our good soldiers trying to bring peace to a subjugated people. Why they love to scream about ‘losses’ in wars that may be just but unequivocally support the right to abortion. And then turn around and hold midnight vigils opposing the death penalty?

Mrs. Geller said the transport authority’s refusal to run her ads violates her First Amendment right of free speech, and she will take the lawsuit to the Supreme Court if necessary.
“It is against the law, and I tell you, those ads will go up whether they like it or not,” Mrs. Geller said….
