REFUGEE advocates claim two of the 22 asylum-seekers accused of involvement in the torching of Sydney’s Villawood detention centre have been told by immigration officials their refugee claims have been approved…

As seven detainees charged with offences relating to the April riot appeared in court yesterday, refugee advocate Ian Rintoul said two of the detainees said to be involved in the riots had been told their refugee claims would succeed pending security clearances.

According to Mr Rintoul, one detainee had been given the news while still protesting on top of the roof at Villawood.

In France, one month after the start of the nation’s burka ban, women wearing face-covering garments are being forced to remove their veil in public to avoid police harassment.

Oh the indignity! Imagine that: women being ‘forced’ to remove the freedom sack! If that doesn’t call for violent jihad I don’t know what does.

On 11 April 2011, France became the second country, after Belgium, to implement a ban on wearing the head-to-toe veil or burka by Muslim women in public.

Last January, the mayor Massimo Giordano Novara, a small town in northern Italy, also incidentally prohibited the total covering of the face in public places as part of enforcement of a 1975 law that was legislated by the Italian government to fight Leftist terrorism. The said law prohibits the wearing of masks or motorcycle helmets that impede identification in public buildings.

The agreement calls for a permanent customs presence at borders in order to check vehicles for particularly weapons and narcotics. EU rules preclude border controls as such, but a solution involving customs officers would be a way of getting around the rules, as checks would be random. Read more »
