The attack took place at Baisaran where a group of tourists had gone visiting on Tuesday. An eyewitness said that gunmen opened fire on the tourists from close range, resulting in injuries.
Heavily armed Islamic terrorists walked out of the woods of Baisaran, a meadow atop a hill here, and surrounded a group of around 40 tourists. The 26 dead included two foreigners – from UAE and Nepal – and two locals, a high ranking official said without getting into details.
Eyewitnesses said that the tourists were ambushed by the terrorists who asked them about their religious identity before shooting them.

Al-Sharaa promised to find and punish the killers, but so far nothing appears to have been done. A few Christians, too, have been killed with impunity by Sunnis. Al-Sharaa has tried to persuade the Kurds to fold their militia into the national army; they first agreed to this, and then changed their minds. They recognized, on further reflection, the need have their militia remain outside the army in order to be able to defend the Kurdish region from attacks by Turkey, that is closely allied to the new rulers in Damascus. The Druze in Syria were also asked to place their militia under the army’s control, but they have refused to do so. Some Druze have asked for Israel to protect them. Druze villagers in Hadar have even asked to be annexed by Israel.

Syria’s interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa, previously known as the Al-Qaeda chief Abu Mohammad al-Julani, was selected as one of Time magazine’s yearly list of the 100 ‘most influential’ people.
Former US ambassador to Syria Robert Ford, who played a role in and advocated for Washington’s regime change policies in the country, put forward Sharaa for the Time 100 list. “Last December, after years of building a powerful armed faction – Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), classified internationally as a terrorist group – Ahmad al-Sharaa and his rebel alliance toppled Bashar Assad’s brutal government in Syria,” the write-up reads.
