Unprecedented scenes unfolded in Caulfield overnight as a pro-Palestinian protest, initially organised to show support for a Palestinian-owned burger restaurant that had recently burned down, escalated into tense clashes with the local Jewish-Israeli community. Victoria Police have labeled the fire that destroyed the restaurant owned by a Palestinian businessman as suspicious. However, they clarified in a statement that, at present, there is no evidence of political or religious motivations. From my observations, the protest received significant promotion from left-wing activist groups, despite the restaurant owner’s earlier call for its cancellation. This led to the assembly of protest groups at a nearby park, adjacent to a synagogue, resulting in a standoff between the two communities that endured for several hours. I interviewed members of the public from both sides and provided a comprehensive overview of some of the major incidents from the protest’s initiation to its conclusion. A Sydney Islamic centre where a preacher urged Muslims to engage in jihad has broadcast another sermon by a prominent Sydney cleric reciting parables about calls to kill Jews and spruiking anti-Semitic tropes. Al Madina Dawah Centre uploaded the sermon on the weekend by Abu Ousayd, who it is understood runs the centre, ­titled The Jews of Al Madina. “Towards the end of times, when the Muslims will be fighting the Jews, the trees will speak,” Mr Ousayd said, citing Islamic scripture and parables. “They will say ‘oh Muslim, there is a yahud (Arabic for Jew) behind me, come and kill him’.” On Sunday, The Australian revealed how “Brother Ismail” gave a sermon at the southwest Sydney religious centre after the ­October 7 massacre in Israel, taking aim at the government and calling jihad the ­“solution”. “There is no other way … they (Muslims) are looking forward to joining the mujahideen,” said Brother Ismail, whose full name has not been ­disclosed. He called Hamas “freedom fighters” and praised the symbols used in the al-Qa’ida flag. He also said “labelling Muslims as terrorists” pushed them into a corner, a “test for the national security system”.

The community activist told the crowd said Palestinian ‘freedom fighters’ were unfairly being described as ‘terrorists’. ‘That hypocrite Albanese when he came and stepped and dirtied one of the mosques … saying we love Muslims and respect them. Not long after Allah exposed his lies when he said Israel has the right to defend itself, when he labelled Hamas as terrorists,’ Brother Ismail said. ‘We say to every individual who says Hamas is terrorists, did you really forget your dark history? Did you really forget your ancestors what they did to the native people in this country … how they raped their women to change their colour. ‘How you chained them like dogs. And you want to come and teach us about morals and humanity and what terrorism is. Did you forget when you celebrate every single year the massacre that you did to the native people?’ The NSW Police are investigating what the cleric said in the video. ‘NSW Police are aware of the comments and have commenced an investigation,’ a spokesman said. ‘As those inquiries are ongoing, we aren’t in a position to provide further information at this time.’ Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Al Madina Dawah Centre for comment.  The Albanese government has sparked backlash after abstaining from a United Nations motion calling for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
