In a parliamentary clash exposing deep failures in the justice system, Conservative MP Katie Lam confronted the Government over whether grooming gang perpetrators would serve their already lenient prison terms in full.

The minister’s reply has sparked widespread fury, highlighting a complacency that victims and the public find utterly unacceptable.

When Lam asked for assurances on full sentences, Justice Minister Jake Richards pointed to prison capacity, stressing the need to ensure serious offenders “serve time at all” amid prison shortages and building programs.

What would Europe look like if it adopted a “mirror policy” applying to its Muslim minorities the same types of legal and social restrictions that Christian minorities face in certain Muslim-majority countries?
 
In many Muslim-majority countries (MMCs), the legal and social treatment of Christian minorities is governed by a mix of constitutional religious preference, Sharia-influenced family law, blasphemy statutes, and restrictions on proselytization.
 
If Europe were to adopt a “Mirror Policy” by 2026, applying the same legal frameworks found in countries like Pakistan, Egypt, Iran, or Saudi Arabia to its Muslim populations, the continent would undergo a fundamental structural transformation.

A large fire broke out yesterday evening at the former Convent of Mercy on Stream Street, Downpatrick, a historic building attached to St Patrick’s Church. The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service deployed significant resources, with up to 70 firefighters and 10 appliances attending. Operations concluded early this morning. NIFRS believes the blaze was started deliberately. The PSNI is investigating, and the scene remains secured. No injuries have been reported.

In London, a Somali named Timir Ahmed Mohamed has been charged with five counts of attempted murder after five pedestrians were hit by a car yesterday. The incident has a Mohammed Coefficient of 100%.

In other news, the Israeli Cabinet unanimously approved a proposal today to designate violence against Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during World War I as a genocide.

Iran denies Trump’s claim of Doha meeting, slams France’s Hormuz plans

  • United States President Donald Trump claims Iran has “requested a meeting” following the exchange of strikes last week, and says it will take place in Qatar today.
  • Iran’s Foreign Ministry denies any planned meeting with the US but says it will send an expert delegation to Doha to follow up on the release of frozen Iranian funds.
  • Tehran also rejects France’s de-mining plans for the Strait of Hormuz, warning Paris against “provocations” in a “sensitive and complex situation”.
  • Israeli forces kill at least eight Palestinians in Gaza and strike southern Lebanon again, despite a ceasefire agreement with Beirut.
  • The IRGC says its forces have destroyed eight US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain, with the attacks described as retaliation for recent US strikes on Iranian facilities.
  • Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the Strait of Hormuz remains under total Iranian control for the next 30 days and any US attacks will only exacerbate the precarious situation.
  • The US bombed Iran for a second day, hitting Qeshm Island and the cities of Sirik and Bandar-e Lengeh after a drone attack on a commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Iran said it has launched retaliatory attacks on US forces in Bahrain and Kuwait and warned of a “crushing response” to further strikes.
  • US President Donald Trump accused Iran of violating the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran and threatened to “militarily complete the job”.
  • The Strait of Hormuz remains under total Iranian control for the next 30 days, and any US attacks will only exacerbate the precarious situation, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warns.

Israel claims Hezbollah infrastructure destroyed in Lebanon

Israel claims to have destroyed a Hezbollah underground facility in southern Lebanon, according to a ⁠joint statement by the Israeli prime minister and defence minister on Sunday on X.

It said that the alleged tunnel network was “over 200 metres long [656ft] and more than 25 metres deep [82ft]”, and contained “hundreds of combat means and several launch silos”. It did not provide any evidence to back up the claims.
