Freedom Is Much More Important Than Democracy

Democracy invites despotism. When understood as majority rule, democracy means that fifty-one of every hundred citizens can have their way with the other forty-nine.

“But I want to keep my possessions, weapons, and children.” Too bad, the majority have decided to redistribute your property to those lazy bums over there, disarm you before you can do anything about it, and indoctrinate your children in public schools, so that they learn to resent you and love the State.

Democracy is dangerous without guardrails. Unless a society has a strong sense of moral virtue that fosters personal discipline, duty, and honor, base selfishness becomes the driving motivation behind all political action. Unless certain constitutional protections exist to safeguard each individual’s inviolable rights, democratic majorities devour those rights whenever expedient.

This should surprise no-one. Political philosophers such as Hobbes and Locke described humans’ pre-government “state of nature” as a chaotic, violent clash of self-interest. Adam Smith’s “invisible hand” regards self-interest as the engine of free markets. Consequently, it is easy to understand why forms of democracy that are unshackled from both moral and constitutional restraints prompt a society to descend back into a state of nature in which humanity’s worst impulses are again indulged. Socialist Communist Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sanchez claimed on Wednesday the thousands of illegal migrants that swarmed their way into Ceuta are not invaders, but rather innocent people “seeking a better life.”

Sánchez spoke about several subjects with the public broadcaster RTVE —  marking his first television interview since the late July mass migrant invasion of the Spanish North African exclave by tens of thousands of migrants.

On the subject of the invasion of Ceuta, the socialist leader referred to recent statements issued by the leader of the center-right People’s Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who affirmed this week he would have invoked Article 8 of the Spanish constitution to deploy the nation’s Armed Forces in response to the invasion and to ensure the territorial sovereignty of Spain.

Iran: Yemen’s Houthis seize strategic city of Mocha in ‘stunning’ blow

It’s getting messy in Arabia….

The Houthis have seized the strategic port of Mocha, bringing the Islamic Republic’s most powerful remaining proxy dangerously closer to the Bab al-Mandab chokepoint. Over the past 48 hours, Houthi forces have rapidly pushed south along Yemen’s Red Sea coast, taking Hays, Al-Khawkhah, Al-Wazi’iyah, Mawza, the Khalid ibn al-Walid camp and Mocha, while Saudi-backed Yemeni forces retreated toward Dhubab, much closer to the strait.

⚓ Mocha dramatically improves the Houthis’ position on the Red Sea.

The port sits roughly 60–75 km north of Bab al-Mandab. Consolidating Mocha gives the Houthis another coastal position and brings them closer to Dhubab and Perim Island, directly overlooking one of the world’s most important shipping arteries.

✈️ Saudi Arabia has enormous airpower, but has so far stopped short of fully committing it to the coastal battle. Saudi aircraft have conducted strikes across Yemen, but air support has been intermittent and poorly integrated with the forces actually trying to hold the Hays–Al-Khawkhah–Mocha line.

When Houthi drones, missiles and ground forces applied pressure, the line collapsed.

  • US President Donald Trump claims the ongoing war with Iran will end immediately after the US November midterm elections and predicts oil prices will then quickly decline.

  • The US has announced sanctions on 27 Iranian airlines and warned companies against doing business with them.
  • The US State Department says the United States will not relent in its economic campaign against Iran after sanctioning 36 entities connected to the Iranian government’s aviation sector.
  • Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has dismissed the latest US sanctions, stating the United States resorts to more penalties after failing to achieve its war goals.
  • The US embassy in Yemen says the Houthis must bear the consequences of their aggression, stating that the group started the ongoing conflict.

The war in Yemen is threatening to open a new front as the Iran-allied Houthi rebels are trying to advance along the Red Sea coast, through the mountain chains of Taiz province, edging closer to strategic ground that overlooks one of the world’s most vital maritime arteries.

For the internationally recognised Yemeni government, this is an offensive with global consequences.

Germany’s left-liberal, globalist Chancellor Friedrich Merz has postponed a planned telephone conversation with the US on Wednesday, days after voters in Saxony-Anhalt handed the AfD a sweeping regional election victory and a major defeat to Merz’s CDU.

The German government offered no explanation for pulling the call, the German press reported. Government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said Berlin had requested the postponement and that officials hadn’t yet settled on another date.

Germany’s sovereigntist, anti-mass-migration Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) party pulled off a historic result in state elections in Saxony-Anhalt at the weekend, pushing the country’s longstanding default party of government the Christian Democrats (CDU) into a distant second and leaving all other parties as also-rans.
