Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned from the birthplace of Western civilization Wednesday that the West must rediscover the qualities that made it great or resign itself to “atrophy and servitude and decline,” declaring that the choices made over the next decade could determine its course for the next century.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will use an address in Athens, Greece, on Wednesday to renew his call for Americans and Europeans to join as one in a great renewal of the Western spirit.

He sees a common heritage stretching from the ancient Greek capital and Rome to Christendom and the founding of the landmark American Republic.

All of that is currently being torn asunder in Europe as seen by tens of thousands of illegal migrants walking into Britain after crossing the English Channel via people smugglers while the streets of France are on fire and roiled by ultra-left protesters challenging the established order.

At the center of Rubio’s argument was the ancient Greek concept of thumos — the spirit of ambition, courage, and pride that he said allowed civilizations not merely to survive, but to strive.

“The thumos, as the ancient Greeks called it — the fire of passion, strength, courage, pride — is the heart of great civilization,” Rubio said. “And without it? Without it, nations lose their will to fight, the will to strive, the will to survive.”

Rubio argued that much of the modern West had lost precisely that quality, becoming ashamed rather than proud of the achievements that distinguished it.

I grew up on those words.

In Lebanon, most people around me wanted a free Palestine for a very practical reason — to send the Palestinian refugees back. The civil war that tore my country apart was ignited in no small part by the Palestinian armed factions who turned Lebanon into their launching pad. “Free Palestine” meant: free us from them.

In Damascus, where my father’s family lived, the sentiment was different but equally self-serving. Palestine must be returned to the Arabs, its righteous owners. No one asked follow-up questions. No one was expected to.

Palestine was central to Islam, most Arabs are Muslim, therefore supporting the Palestinian cause was reflexive. A non-brainer in the most literal sense — no brain engaged at all.

Nobody stopped to point out that Palestine is not an Arabic word. Nobody found it strange that Jerusalem, the supposedly third holiest city in Islam, is not mentioned once in the Quran. Not once. Nor is Palestine. The entire theological and political architecture of this cause rests on a foundation that their own scripture doesn’t bother to acknowledge. ‘Migration Was Only the Formal Cover’: 72 Moroccan Military Coordinators Embedded in Ceuta

Dozens of Moroccan military personnel are embedded within the invading forces to monitor Spanish Military and security apparatus response to the invasion, and not for Spanish evaluation.

Spanish army intelligence has identified at least 72 Moroccan military personnel still operating inside Ceuta, two months after 80,000 people surged across the border on July 30. Twenty-two are agents of Rabat’s intelligence services. Fifty are soldiers embedded in the invasion. Seven additional Moroccan reservists voluntarily presented themselves to Spanish National Police. The classified reports describe them as “centers of gravity” for financing and controlling the settlements still occupying the city.

What they do

The 22 intelligence agents are the planners. The 50 infiltrated soldiers are the executors. The agents identify vulnerable points in the city, measure the reaction capacity of Spanish forces, and transmit targets to the 50, who carry out orders through criminal networks embedded among the migrants who stayed.

Their operations include surveillance of Spanish patrols. Spanish soldiers have caught them following maneuvers, recording patrol patterns, and filming troop movements. The attacks on Spanish military vehicles on July 27, when 30 to 40 migrants stoned a military vehicle at Benzú and injured four soldiers, were not random. The forest fires on the hills above Ceuta were not isolated incidents.

The occupation of housing, the “pisos patera” coordinated squatting of invaders, were ordered.

The British government has been handing out thousands of hijabs to illegal migrants washing up on the shores of the country in boats, while Home Office staff have been spending time in Calais cooking meals for them.

Internal figures show 974 hijabs issued to small-boat arrivals between January and June, at a rate of 162 a month. Run that rate forward and the year’s total is already past 1,000 and heading for 1,500.

The same clothing data also proves that the vast majority of those arriving are fighting age males, with more than 10,000 male packs being provided against 2,670 for women, while children’s packs number just 773 for boys and 829 for girls.

This isn’t a deterrent, it’s an open armed welcome.

Home Office documents show the scarves are part of the dry-clothing pack issued at short-term holding sites such as Manston in Kent.
