NBC News is reporting that Trump told them in a phone interview that he spoke with Israel earlier today and asked them to agree to the ceasefire with Hezbollah.

  • Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to renew their ceasefire, the Reuters news agency reports, citing a top United States official, even as Israeli attacks across southern Lebanon continue, killing at least 47 people since midnight.
  • Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has denounced Israel’s latest attacks in Lebanon, saying Israel’s “continued war-making” would have “serious and immediate consequences”.

Israel Announces over 100 Strikes on Lebanon as Iran Cancels Switzerland Talks

Avichay Adraee, the Arabic-language spokesman for the Israeli military, said on Thursday that Israeli forces “struck more than 100 Hezbollah targets across various areas of Lebanon, including the Bekaa Valley and Nabatieh.

“Hezbollah violated the cease-fire in an attempt to prevent our forces from completing the destruction of capabilities it had built over many years, and we responded with force,” Adraee said.

The Iran-backed terrorists of Hezbollah insisted they had not “violated the cease-fire,” instead accusing Israel of “intensifying their cease-fire violations, committing massacres, and continuing to try to infiltrate areas and villages they were unable to reach before.”

Later on Thursday evening, Hezbollah admitted attacking Israeli units as they were advancing on a hill south of Nabatieh. The Israeli military said four of its soldiers were killed in the attacks.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that Israeli forces will “remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary to protect communities in the north.”

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced on Thursday that he would be cutting ties with the office of E.U. High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas “until she retracts the blood libel she directed at the world’s only Jewish state.”

A meeting of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) member state defence ministers in Brussels, Belgium was addressed by U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Thursday morning as a session opener, where he delivered a blunt assessment of the alliance’s failure to be war-ready, and warned it had six months to turn itself around or else face consequences.

Hegseth’s remarks spoke the language of “NATO 3.0” — also frequently mentioned by Secretary General Mark Rutte when discussing plans underway to transform the alliance — shorthand for the new standards members have to meet going forward. This third NATO is expressed as being a return to the first incarnation of the alliance, which won the Cold War and where its European members were major military powers, and as the end to NATO-two where Europe took full advantage of the so-called peace dividend to massively scale back defence and plough that money into other projects, most often welfare spending.

The headline $300 billion that has the commentariat in a froth is not American money at all. As ZeroHedge laid out in detail, it is a proposed private investment fund, financed by Gulf states and multinational firms rather than the U.S. Treasury, and it functions only if sanctions relief, banking access, and a durable settlement actually materialize. Until Iran performs, the pledged capital is, by the fund’s own logic, theoretical.

When they do leave, other Muslims will be ready to move in, until the entire area is “Muslim land.” That’s how the jihad advances without a shot being fired.

The Houthis in Yemen have generated a lot of news headlines since the Gaza war began, lobbing missiles into Israel and causing serious problems for international maritime traffic by attacking ships transiting the Bab-el-Mandeb off southern Yemen.

The Houthis (whose official name is now Ansar Allah) are a Shi’ite movement backed by Iran. They came into prominence during the Yemeni Revolution in 2011, which was an adjunct of the “Arab Spring” that had already swept Tunisia and Egypt. Their principal Sunni rivals within the radical Islamic ferment in Yemen were Al Qaeda and the Islamic State.

With assistance from Iran, the Houthis took over about a third of Yemeni territory, including the capital, Sana’a. Their stronghold is in southern Yemen, adjacent to the Red Sea, which is why they have been able to do so much damage to ships travelling to or from the Suez Canal.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israeli forces will maintain a ‘security zone’ in occupied Palestinian, Syrian, and Lebanese territories.

Netanyahu said on Monday that the country’s forces would remain in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria “for as long as necessary,” hours after a deal was announced between Iran and the US to end the Middle East war.

“Free Palestine.” I grew up on those words. In Lebanon, most people around me wanted a free Palestine for a very practical reason — to send the Palestinian refugees back.
 
The civil war that tore my country apart was ignited in no small part by the Palestinian armed factions who turned Lebanon into their launching pad.
 
“Free Palestine” meant: free us from them. In Damascus, where my father’s family lived, the sentiment was different but equally self-serving. Palestine must be returned to the Arabs, its righteous owners.
 
No one asked follow-up questions. No one was expected to. Palestine was central to Islam, most Arabs are Muslim, therefore supporting the Palestinian cause was reflexive. A non-brainer in the most literal sense — no brain engaged at all.
