Hugh Fitzgerald: A Few Thoughts on Muslims in the West

 Is it somewhere written that the countries of the advanced West are required to admit Muslims into their lands, or to continue to endure their large-scale presence, no matter what information may come to light, with greater understanding as a result, of the meaning and menace of Islam? It is by now quite clear, to all who are paying attention both to the canonical texts (Qur’an, Hadith, Sira) of Islam, and to the attitudes and observable behavior of many Muslims, that there is something deeply worrisome about the ever-increasing numbers of Muslims in the Bilad al-kufr (Lands of the Infidels). And it is also clear to many that this has led to a situation, in Western Europe though not yet in America, that is far more unpleasant, expensive, and physically dangerous for the indigenous Infidels (and for other, non-Muslim, immigrants) than would be the case were there no such large-scale Muslim presence.

It may be impossible to completely end Muslim immigration to the West, but can it not be cut way back in the interests of security? We already know that there are tens of thousands of jihadis among recent Muslim immigrants to Europe. Even to monitor just one suspect around the clock requires at least three members of the police. It’s a terrifically expensive undertaking. We simply lack the manpower and money to monitor all those who require it.  Should we not return these Muslim non-citizens to their countries of origin rather than fail to monitor them, or monitor them only at great expense? On what theory are we required to allow them to stay? Similarly, can we not impose restrictions on money coming from Saudi Arabia and elsewhere that fund Wahhabi or other extremist mosques and madrasas, with their message of hatred for Infidels, all over the Western world? Can legislation be passed to allow for the monitoring of mosques, and stripping citizenship from those who by word or deed support Islamic terrorism, identifying such support as treason? Can we enforce the equality of women, and freedom of conscience, among Muslims in our own countries?  We are expected to believe that “diversity” is always and everywhere a societal good, though there is no evidence for this belief that amounts just to that  warm fuzzy  feeling that so often substitutes for thought. We need to take a much harder look at the impact of Muslims on our societies, instead of dwelling on the presumed but unproven benefits of “diversity.”

Apart from poverty, hatred, treachery, neglect, cynicism and hypocrisy, the  Arab world has nothing to offer Israel, because these are the only commodities it has. Sad, but true. These are Israel’s neighbors, and when we Israelis, from our prime minister down to the last of our citizens, begin to understand this, we will be capable of dealing with our neighbors the way we should.

School inspectors to quiz girls in hijabs

Muslim girls wearing the hijab in primary school will be asked why by inspectors. The reason they give will then be written in schools reports amid fears girls are being forced by their parents.

The chief inspector of schools, Amanda Spielman, announced the move today. She wants to make sure schools are not breaching equality laws by requiring only girls to wear religious garments. ‘In seeking to address these concerns, inspectors will talk to girls who wear such garments to ascertain why they do so in the school,’ said Spielman.

Spielman says … that primary school hijabs could be seen to be sexualising children because the headscarf is traditionally worn as a sign of modesty in front of men when Muslim girls reach puberty.

Spielman asked to meet the campaigners after a Sunday Times survey revealed that nearly a fifth (18%) of 800 state primary schools, in 11 regions of England list the hijab as part of their uniform policy, mostly as an optional item.

One of the country’s top state primary schools revealed it had banned the hijab for girls under eight last autumn, despite protests by parents, and intends to ban it for girls under 11 from next September.

STRANGE things are happening to our country.

National icons are being denigrated, simply for holding an opinion based on their religious beliefs.

Take the case of tennis legend Margaret Court — the most successful player in the history of the game, winning 24 grand slam singles titles in the 1960s and ’70s.

She holds the amazing record of never losing a match while playing for Australia. Today she serves as a pastor at Perth’s Victory Life Church, helping more than 10,000 disadvantaged families each year with food parcels, health services and counselling. This is what left-wing activists used to do before they fell in love with symbolic identity politics.

They actually met the poor and helped them in person — something Pastor Margaret does every day.

I’m not a Christian and I’ve certainly never been a tennis player, but for some reason I can’t stop thinking about Mrs Court’s situation.

“It’s not just about sexual violence. For some students it’s just another way for Europeans to gang up against a prominent Muslim intellectual. We must protect Muslim students who believe and trust in him, and protect that trust.”

The statement by Eugene Rogan, director of the Middle East Centre at Oxford, explaining a few weeks ago his initial decision to allow Tariq Ramadan to continue teaching at Oxford, after the first set of his female accusers came forward, charging Ramadan with extreme violence, sexual assault, and rape, was an extraordinary example of moral confusion.

To be clear about the timeline of the cascading charges made against Tariq Ramadan: when Eugene Rogan made his fatuous remarks about Ramadan in early October, he did not know that in addition to the four women in Paris who have accused Ramadan of sexual violence and rape, three of whom have gone public (the fourth is still considering it), four other women would come forward in Geneva, where Ramadan taught at a high school in the 1980s and 1990s, to accuse him of seducing them when they were his trusting pupils, aged between 14 and 18.

French authorities will stop Muslims from praying in a street north of Paris, the country’s interior minister said on Sunday, after a series of protests by lawmakers and locals over what they view as an unacceptable use of public space.

“They will not have prayers on the street, we will prevent street praying,” Interior Minister Gerard Collomb told Questions Politics (Franceinfo, France Inter, Le Monde).

Prayers in the street have taken place every Friday in the multiethnic suburb of Clichy-la-Garenne since March to protest the closure of a popular local mosque that had operated in a government building but since been turned into a library.

Gerard Collomb reiterated his opposition to prayers staged by the Union of Muslim Worship and Cultural Associations of Clichy-la-Garenne (UAMC) every Friday in the city center since March after a hall they had rented from the town was remodeled into a multimedia library under the new mayor. A dedicated worship center has been built since then, but local Muslims are unhappy about its location and size.

…going on since March, when police were called to expel the UAMC from the premises pursuant to a court order, reaffirmed by the Council of State in November of last year. In response to the eviction, the UAMC called for street prayers to be held in front of the building, which is located in downtown Clichy.

…the interior minister acknowledged the need for an alternative:  “Muslims must have a place of worship to pray…We will make sure we resolve this conflict in the next few weeks,” he added.Clichy Mayor Rémi Muzeau from The Republicans (LR) party, who is responsible for the repurposing of the premises, says there is no need for a new prayer room, as there is already a new center – the Clichy Muslim Cultural and Worship Center (ACCCMC) to the north of the town.

A local Muslim association has said it intends to hold prayers in the city centre next Friday.

France has around five ten million Muslims, and concern about the religion challenging the country’s strict secular laws was a major theme in this year’s presidential election.

Muslim Women Must Speak for Ourselves

“Many Muslim women have been reluctant to discuss this Tariq Ramadan case because in part they don’t want to feed into elements of the media’s Islamophobic and racist framing of these allegations,” Shaista Aziz, an Oxford-based freelance journalist, told me. “This does nothing to encourage women to report sexual violence.”

The hard place is a community within our own faith that is all too eager to defend Muslim men against all accusations. Mr. Ramadan’s defenders have dismissed the complaints against him as a “Zionist conspiracy” and an Islamophobic attempt to destroy a Muslim scholar. Too often, when Muslim women speak out, some in our “community” accuse us of “making our men look bad” and of giving ammunition to right-wing Islamophobes.

The African Union (AU) has expressed outrage after footage emerged appearing to show sub-Saharan migrants being sold at slave markets in Libya.

On the video, released by CNN this week, young men are seen being auctioned off as farm workers.

I doubt this heralds genuine change in the Saudi worldview or Wahhabi Islamic theology, but the Saudis need the United States in their struggle against Iran, and so they’re making “moderate” noises. But the Qur’an and Sunnah say what they say. If the Iranian threat were to be neutralized, these signs of Saudi “moderation” would melt into the air, but they’re good to see while they last.

An Israeli minister on Monday welcomed remarks by a mufti of Saudi Arabia that Palestinian resistance group Hamas is a terror organization.

“We congratulate Abdul Aziz Al-Sheikh, the grand mufti of Saudi Arabia, as well as the head of Ulema (Islamic scholars) for his fatwa forbidding the fight against the Jews and forbidding to kill them,” Israeli Communications Minister Ayoub Kara wrote on his official Twitter account.

The minister also welcomed the mufti’s remarks in which he considered Hamas a terror organization, adding “I invite the mufti to visit Israel; he will be welcomed with a high level of respect.”

Earlier, the mufti said while answering a question on a television program that fighting against Israel was inappropriate and said Hamas was a “terror organization” in reply to a question regarding last July’s anger across the Israeli-occupied West Bank when Israel shut Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is venerated by Muslims and Jews, following a deadly shootout….

Baroness Warsi calls for a public inquiry into press Islamophobia

On Tuesday 14 November, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi delivered the fifth annual Hacked Off Leveson Lecture, calling for Yvette Cooper MP to implement Section 40 of the Crime and Courts Act 2013.

Speaking before a packed room at the University of Westminster, Baroness Warsi talked about the “exhausting” Islamophobia in British press, mentioning highly biased and distorted stories from The Sun, The Times, and the Daily Express as examples of “hate speech that is driving communities apart and poisoning our public discourse.”
