Peter FitzSimons and his fellow Voice advocates argued throughout 2023 that Aboriginal primacy demanded constitutional change and an additional parliamentary wing.
But they lost that argument, and for Peter at least the issue of Aboriginal importance seems in 2024 to have dramatically faded.
Here he is defending Bruce Pascoe’s claims to Aboriginal lineage, which is now of so little significance that – as FitzSimons writes – the Dark Emu author may just as well be bragging about his dancing ability:
I’m happy to take him at his word – not that it is particularly relevant. Let’s say he also claimed to be a great dancer – and he wasn’t. Would it remotely affect what he wrote?
This is extraordinary.
Pascoe’s professed Aboriginality is central to his career as an author and academic, and also – if we are on Pascoe’s side – to his very being.
Sure, Pascoe has bugger-all evidence to support his genealogical beliefs, but he nevertheless insists on the authenticity of his Aboriginal identification. He’s been going on and on and on about it for decades.
And then along comes Fitzy to tell us Aboriginality is a trivial matter and his hero Bruce Pascoe is the mere equivalent of a disco poser.
What an odd relationship FitzSimons has with people of colour. He calls a black man a gorilla, gets into fights with principled Indigenous activists and his favourite Aboriginal is a white bloke.

The United Nations World Health Organization (W.H.O.) chief is facing backlash after publishing an “abhorrent” post effectively blaming Israel for turning Gaza’s Shifa hospital into a “battlefield,” while ignoring Hamas’s takeover of the facility and use of it as a terror base — the very reason for Israel’s operating there.
Following attacks from the hospital, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spent roughly two weeks neutralizing approximately 200 terrorists and detaining around 500 at al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, remarkably managing to do so without civilian casualties or endangering any medical staff or patients.
On Sunday, the IDF released photographic evidence of an extensive arsenal hidden within the hospital’s maternity ward, amidst their ongoing anti-terror operations.
The IDF had previously evacuated the hospital in November, uncovering numerous terror tunnels. However, terrorists reoccupied and resumed operations from the medical facility, blatantly contravening international humanitarian norms.
On Monday, W.H.O. Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared an image of Shifa’s damaged complex, remarking that “hospitals must be respected and protected; they must not be used as battlefields.”

In response, many took to social media to call out the public health official for having chosen to “cover for terrorists.”
“The World Health Organization couldn’t find evidence of COVID origins in Wuhan and can’t find evidence of Hamas at Shifa,” wrote Senate Republican Policy Committee Chair Joni Ernst (R-IA), co-chair of the Abraham Accords Caucus and member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
“Who needs WHO?” she added.
Former Israeli government spokesman Eylon Levy noted that when hospitals are “abused for military purposes, like Hamas did using Shifa as a stronghold,” they cannot “give terrorists immunity.”

NORWAY The dead body of Iraqi refugee and Islam critic Salwan Sabah Matti Momika has been found in Norway.
Momika was born into a Christian family in northern Iraq, but now views himself as atheist. Momika came to Sweden as a refugee after having been politically active in Iraq where he was part of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) that fought against the Islamic State.
Momika, an Iraqi refugee living in Stockholm, has recently been making headlines over his repeated acts of desecration of the Quran causing a diplomatic row between many Muslim countries and Sweden. Salwan Sabah Matti Momika has triggered a spate of criticism and condemnation from around the world refusing to back down from provocative burnings of the Muslim holy book in front of symbolic places including embassies, mosques, and Sweden’s parliament, the Riksdag.
Living in Sweden since 2018, the 37-year-old Momika, who calls himself as “liberal atheist,” has made himself known as an anti-Islamic firebrand. His public burning of copies of the Quran, held under police protection, has also sparked criticism from Swedish officials and the government itself, with polls indicating that his actions do not enjoy the approval of most Swedes.

ABC’s three fails while covering Bruce Pascoe’s latest book

Just one week ago I set the ABC a test: prove they’re in the truth business. I specifically asked: “Will the ABC now disown its hero”, fake Aborigine Bruce Pascoe, as he flogged his latest book, on life on his Mallacoota farm?
Since then: three fails.
As most informed people must now know, Pascoe is not Aboriginal.
Genealogical records indicate all his ancestors are of British descent, and two of the three tribes he claims are his say he’s fake.

His bestseller Dark Emu has also been debunked.
Pascoe relied in part on false citations to claim Aborigines had actually been farmers living in “houses” in “towns” of 1000 people.

Now, in his latest book, he even claims Aborigines were here for “100,000 years” – twice as long as accepted science suggests – and to end their disadvantage we should buy flour they used to make from, say, kangaroo grass, which is so impractical that a kilo from Pascoe’s farm costs $360.

But here’s what happened when Pascoe was interviewed three times last Tuesday on the ABC.
Not one of the four interviewers – Rafael Epstein, David Lipson, Emma Rebellato and Michael Rowland – asked Pascoe for evidence that he wasn’t a fake Aborigine.

They merely asked how it felt to have been, er, criticised, for something they didn’t dare name.
They all asked variations of the poor-you question on the ABC’s Radio National Breakfast: “That backlash post Dark Emu, what was that like?”
Lipson even advertised Pascoe still as Aboriginal and praised him for being “honest”.
None challenged Pascoe’s claim that Aborigines were here for 100,000 years, or that they’d been farmers, or that kangaroo grass flour was a viable solution when it costs $360 a kilo.
I once thought truth counted.
But to today’s tribalists it now seems that the more false a claim by one of their own, the more credit they get for believing it.
How little the facts now count was made clear last week by the Sydney Morning Herald’s Peter FitzSimons, who declared the truth of Pascoe’s race wasn’t relevant: “I’m happy to take (Pascoe) at his word – not that it is particularly relevant.

Well, if Pascoe tells untruths even about his race, why believe anything else in his Aboriginal “history”? But which Leftist journalist still cares about truth?
‘Welcome Ceremonies’ are an insult to all non Aboriginals. The last sentence of every of these ceremonies is “This is Aboriginal land. Always was and always will be.” Meaning that we are all ‘squatters’ unlawfully here on someone else’s land.

A ‘phobia’ is an irrational fear, as in claustrophobia, agoraphobia or arachnophobia, all conditions deserving of sympathy. But fear can be rational, too. An infantryman in a First World War trench would have every reason to fear going over the top. To accuse him of a ‘phobia’ would be uncharitable, to say the least. An Australian suspected of arachnophobia might point out that spiders with a dangerous bite are not rare. In Britain, there’s much less to fear from spiders, so my fear of them could fairly be called arachnophobia. Is there a group of people who, like Australians in the case of spiders, have good reason to fear certain aspects of Islam? If such a group exists, I suggest it would be found among Muslims themselves.
A gay Muslim living in an Islamic country might have reasonable misgivings. There are nine Muslim countries in which consensual homosexuality carries the death penalty. A Muslim woman in Iran might reasonably fear being arrested by the morality police for showing a tendril of hair. In Pakistan or Britain, she might fear violent reprisals from her father, uncles or brothers if she is suspected of consorting with an unsuitable man. In Somalia, a girl might reasonably fear older female relatives who intend to hold her down and take a razor blade to her clitoris. Not phobia, just justifiable fear. In Saudi Arabia, an unmarried adulterer might reasonably fear the prescribed 100 lashes, while a married adulterer can expect the death penalty.
In Britain, phobia is hardly the right word for any fear Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses, might feel. Sir Iqbal Sacranie, the former secretary general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said: ‘Death, perhaps, is a bit too easy for him. His mind must be tormented for the rest of his life unless he asks for forgiveness to Almighty Allah.’ A Muslim who is losing his faith would have good reason to fear the penalty for apostasy, which is death. When I taxed Sir Iqbal with this on television, he said, ‘It’s very rarely enforced’. That’s good to hear. But a would-be apostate doesn’t have to be ‘phobic’ to still feel a reasonable fear.
The All Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims’ definition of Islamophobia, which was published in 2018, begins with the statement that it’s a form of racism. In a new paper for the Free Speech Union, Tim Dieppe makes the obvious point that Islam is not a race, and he very well develops the inconsistencies that this remarkable solecism leads to.
I would make one further observation. A religion is something you can convert to, or opt out of. Your race isn’t like that. You can’t convert to a race or leave it. The fact that you can’t leave your race means that, if Islam is indeed a race, apostasy is literally impossible. Yet apostasy has to be possible in Islam or it couldn’t be punishable by death. So the statement that Islamophobia is a form of racism is more than just incorrect. It contradicts a fundamental, and incidentally obnoxious, tenet of Islam.
Here I have not considered the issue of freedom of speech. Tim Dieppe covers it so well that I have nothing to add, except this final thought. If ‘Islamophobia’ becomes punishable by law, will it be illegal to even state, as a matter of fact, that a woman in some Islamic countries can be stoned to death for the crime of speaking to a man other than her husband? Will I be arrested for stating the undenied fact that apostasy carries the death penalty?
If so, bring it on. I look forward to defending myself in court.
