BERLIN (AP) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed a suggestion by a junior coalition partner that the country should keep open the option of using its closed nuclear power plants, declaring that atomic energy is a “dead horse” in Germany.
Germany switched off its last three nuclear reactors in April, completing a process that received wide political support after Japan’s Fukushima nuclear reactor disaster in 2011. But some argued for a rethink after energy prices spiked because of the war in Ukraine.

Sky News host Rowan Dean has slammed Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland for asking “does capitalist democracy still work” in her speech during a graduation ceremony at the Northeastern University in Boston.
“In the entire history of civilization there has never been a system of governance that has delivered peace and prosperity on a greater scale than capitalist democracy,” Mr Dean said.
“Which part of capitalist democracy does this woman have a problem with? The capitalist bit or the democratic bit or both?

Family First Party’s Lyle Shelton says his lawyers, the Human Rights Law Alliance, have a “full caseload” of clients, and it’s been driven by LGBTQIA+ activists trying to “shut down free speech”.
Mr Shelton recently won his three-year legal battle after he objected to Brisbane City Council running a drag queen storytime event for children.
Mr Shelton joined Sky News Australia to discuss the ordeal he has endured over these last few years and what the verdict of the case means for the future of free speech.

HELENA, Mont. — Montana has become the first state to specifically ban people dressed in drag from reading books to children at public schools and libraries, part of a host of legislation aimed at the rights the LGBTQ community in Montana and other states.
Bills in Florida and Tennessee also appear to try to ban drag reading events, but both require the performances to be sexual in nature, which could be up for interpretation. Both bills also face legal challenges.
