Lebanon: IDF will bomb Hezbollah until they stop firing rockets into Israel

Update:

UNIFIL says its personnel came under fire this morning from an IDF tank operating at an Israeli position inside southern Lebanon. According to the peacekeeping force, machine-gun fire landed roughly five meters from a team of observers who were patrolling on foot, forcing them to take cover until the shooting stopped.
UNIFIL reports that it urgently requested the IDF halt the fire through its liaison system. The observers were able to withdraw about half an hour later, once the Merkava tank pulled back into the Israeli position. No injuries were reported.
The IDF has not issued a response.
UNIFIL has filed several similar complaints in recent weeks, while Israel has long maintained that the force has failed to curb Hezbollah’s entrenchment and weapons buildup along the border over many years.

The Maronite Christian bishops of Lebanon issued a joint statement last week denouncing Israel’s “daily attacks on the South and other regions of Lebanon, which are bringing the country to the brink of war once again.”

The statement called on all “parties concerned” to “respect the ceasefire and to continue the implementation of Resolution 1701,” and to “not place the burden of the situation on Lebanon, which is the weakest link in the chain of peace demands.”

The bishops said it was unfair for Lebanon’s civilian population to be caught in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and said civilian populations have suffered greatly during the hostilities.

It’s a terrible concession on the part of the Israelis, who had earlier been determined to wipe out all the Hamas fighters who had been in tunnels to the east of the Yellow Line, terrorists who now will be allowed not just to escape being killed by the IDF, that had them trapped in those tunnels, but Israel has apparently agreed as well that it will not even hold them as prisoners.
