Rev Wright APA leading Christian Zionist says if President Obama wants to be consistent in his condemnation of anti-Semitism, he should speak out against the latest anti-Semitic rant by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright.

Pastor Wright told the Daily Press of Newport News, Virginia, on Tuesday that “them Jews” were keeping him from speaking to President Obama. He also criticized the president for not sending a U.S. delegation to the World Conference on Racism, saying Obama chose not to for fear of offending Jews and Israel.

Pro-Israel activist Gary Bauer, who serves on the executive board of Christians United for Israel, says Wright’s comments were yet another jarring reminder that he is an “open, unrepentant anti-Semite of the worst kind.”
 
“This is a man who has serious problems and is obviously a hater – and the mystery remains why in the world our president and his family would have stayed in that church for so many years,” he contends.

 Although the White House would not comment on Wright’s incendiary remarks, including his claim that Zionists were carrying out “ethnic cleansing” in Gaza, Bauer says President Obama needs to be asked how much of his Mideast policy was formulated by the two decades of teaching he received from Wright.

“Certainly when I see the president suggesting that Israel cannot build homes for Jews in Judea and Samaria, it raises serious concerns in my mind about what in the world is motivating [him] to take such a position,” he admits.
 
According to Bauer, if Jeremiah Wright is so concerned about “ethnic cleansing,” he needs to look no further than Gaza, where every Jew was forced to leave as they turned that land over to the Palestinians. Bauer is concerned that the Obama administration may be suggesting that no Jews will be allowed to live in the West Bank as that land is also turned over to the Palestinians.
 
Meanwhile, the Associated Press reports that Wright issued an apology on Thursday, saying he “meant no harm or ill-will to the American Jewish community” or Obama’s administration.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney addressed the international conference aimed at addressing rising anti-Semitism yesterday at London’s Lancaster House, on behalf of the government of Canada. In the full text of his speech below, he explains why he his government will cut funding to groups, who, he says, express “hateful sentiments” against Jews—he mentions the Canadian Arab Federation and the Canadian Islamic Congress—and calls on other countries to also take a “zero tolerance approach to expressions of anti-Semitism in the public square.”

I doubt too many other countries will follow suit: Canada remains the only nation outside Israel to so far announce its boycott of the  Durban 2 conference, which, last time around, proved to be a veritable carnival of “anti-Semitism in the public square.” Most European states, rather, have demonstrated in recent years that their worry over offending allegedly restive Muslim populations typically outweighs long-held liberal principles. Certainly Mr. Kenney’s speech demonstrates that Canadians are either plucky enough and/or demographically fortunate enough, to not have to compromise on standing against hate. Whichever it is, that Canadian politicians can make such unapologetic speeches as the one below, without trepidation, is a rare, and, I suspect, generally under-appreciated, thing.

Austria: "Muslim community" throws hissy fit over sacked teacher

What could possibly be wrong with distributing anti-Semitic leaflets and incitement against Jews? Poor fella! He was just doing his Islamic duty!

* Study concludes Muslim teachers in Austria have largely anti-democratic beliefs and one in five is “fanatical”.

* The older the teachers, the more likely they are to reject the principle of the rule of law.

Backman, Crackman Apologies… (kind of)

An apology  (well, sort of-) from Michael Backman  who is very sorry he got busted:

… denied he was anti-Semitic and said he believed Israel had the “absolute right to exist” …

In a letter to Jewish community leadership, Backman said he can now see “that some of the forms of words used did not adequately explain what I intended to say”.

“I do understand that an injudicious use of words and themes has caused upset in the Jewish community and for that I can only apologise,” Blackman said.

He’s been a journo for at least 10 years who doesn’t know how to use words?

Oh wait. He writes for The Age.

* Ah yes, before I forget it: “The accusation of anti-Semitism is itself hurtful and offensive,” Mr Backman said. 

Gee, who would have thought? Poor chap is hurt by what he said?
