Arctic mosque lands safely in Inuvik

“You want to break down crying, really. It’s joyous, it’s a sense of achievement,” said Hussain Guisti, who heads up the foundation.

“We were told, ‘You know, this can’t be done. It’s impossible. There’s no way you’re going to get [it] there in one piece.’ To know that I did it — it’s a feeling of joy.”

Guisti said the generosity of everyone who helped make the northern mosque a reality is incredible.

“This is what Canada is all about,” he said. “It shows the welcomeness of Canada, it shows the tolerance of Canada, it shows we’re multicultural, we’re diverse.” (CBC News)

A charity is planning to build a mosque in Arctic Canada where Muslim children have suffered from travelling far from their homes because of lack of an Islamic education center or mosque.

A charity is planning to build a mosque in Arctic Canada where Muslim children have suffered from travelling far from their homes because of lack of an Islamic education center or mosque in northwestern region, a Canadian report said on Thursday.

Dozens of Muslim families in Inuvik currently send their children to live elsewhere, Alaska Dispatch reported.

The Zubaidah Tallab Foundation is raising money to build a mosque in Winnipeg then ship it 4,000 kilometres by truck and barge to the northern community.

“It is very important to this community – really important,” Abdalla Mohamed, Inuvik resident was quoted as saying.

A Saudi businessman has donated $2.78 million for the construction of the first mosque at the North Pole.

It was reported that the Muslim community in northern Norway asked that the municipality in the region allocate to it 1,000 square meters for a mosque that will be the largest in the north of the country.
