IBRAHIM Siddiq-Conlon is expounding the classic interpretation of Islam’s sacred scriptures, the Koran and Hadith (stories of Mohammed’s life). In this interpretation, the peaceful Koranic verses, which were recited while Mohammed was in a weak position in Mecca, have been abrogated by the bellicose verses recited later when he became much more powerful after fleeing to Medina.

Most Muslims living in Australia do not understand or agree with this dogma, but its supporters are growing rapidly. I have been waiting for Muslim leaders to repudiate it publicly but the few who dare, such as the Pakistani provincial governor Salman Taseer, seem to end up dead.
