Hezbollah fighters overrun West Beirut and media HQ
* Coup d’etat in Beirut
*Â This is what happens when you allow an islamic fundamentalist state sponsored regime to become a state within a state.
* This is what appeasement does.
* The US amd Israel will no doubt be blamed again, but maybe the world will start to wake up to Iran, Islam and their drive to dominate the area through islamic dictatorship
Hezbollah fighters, who seem to be gaining the upper hand in the internecine conflict
Hezbollah fighters seized control of rival pro-Government strongholds in Beirut today as gunbattles rocked the Lebanese capital for a third day, edging the nation dangerously close to all-out civil war.
The Shia Muslim group, the most powerful armed movement in Lebanon, forced the shutdown of all media belonging to the family of Saad Hariri, the parliamentary majority leader. A rocket hit the outer perimeter of his Beirut residence.
Gunfire and the thump of exploding rocket-propelled grenades echoed across west Beirut, where the fighting was concentrated between Sunni militants loyal to the Western-backed Government and gunmen from the Shia opposition
Red Cross officials said that at least 10 people were killed in the street battles that erupted yesterday after Hassan Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader, called a government crackdown on his Iranian-backed Shia Muslim group a declaration of war.
“West Beirut plunges into urban warfare,” reported the French-language daily L’Orient-Le Jour.
Witnesses said that several Sunni neighbourhoods in west Beirut considered bastions of Lebanon’s ruling bloc had been overrun by militants from Hezbollah and its ally Amal.
Fierce gunbattles also raged in the mixed Sunni-Shiite-Christian neighbourhood of Hamra where opposition militants also appeared to be gaining ground, AFP correspondents said.

Al-Qaeda ‘declares war on Hezbollah’Â
* Yeah! Go for it, boys! Knock yourselves out!
Al-Qaeda has reportedly called on its operatives to go to Lebanon and defend what it called the Sunni community of the country.
The report came while some Arab media outlets described the current clashes in Lebanon as a fight between Sunni and Shia communities.
In an interviews with Sunni clerics with links to Saad Hariri’s pro-government bloc, Al-Arabiya TV network described the ongoing clashes as a sectarian strife.
Sheikh Ali al-Jozo, Mufti of the Jebel region, who is well known for his harsh stance against Hezbollah told the TV network that the clashes are a battle between Lebanon’s Shia and Sunni communities and called on Arab leaders to prevent “Iran’s influence in the country.”
The TV network reported that al-Qaeda on all of its websites urged its operatives to defend the Sunni community of Lebanon.
The reports came while in interviews with NBN and al-Manar TV stations on Thursday, a number of Sunni clerics said that the clashes are not a sectarian strife and many Sunni Muslims in Lebanon support Hezbollah.Â

From a jpost reader:
* In the end, there will be a major massacre of Christians at the hands of Moslems. This is the fate of Christians now in the Middle East since the Europeans have turned their backs on them. The only refuge they have is Israel or to leave the region altogether. Islam is incompatible with democracy, so Lebanon is finished as a democratic state.

* While Hizbollah takes over Lebanon, the United States stands idily by.
*Â We spill the blood of our brave soliders, marines and sailors while squandering our resources and money all for the “democracy” in Iraq. All for what will eventually be a sharia state. Democracy under sharia. How idiotic is that?
*Â We allow parts of Serbia to be torn from it by islamic Albanians.. We allow and support Islamics to establish the heroin fiefdom of Kosovo and the ethnic cleansing of Christian Serbs. We will do nothing as parts of Macedonia will be torn apart from those same islamic forces….
*Â Â Yet we will let a democratic, pro-west, non-islamic country fall. All the while we standby as the wholesale slaughterof Lebanese Christians begins….
*Â Â If ever a cause was worth sending in our forces to the middle east, it would be to save Lebanon from hezbollah and iran.Â

Iran accuses US, Israel of provoking Lebanon violence
TEHRAN (AFP) – Iran on Friday accused the United States and Israel of fueling the deadly sectarian fighting in Lebanon between its Shiite militant Hezbollah ally and the Western-backed ruling majority.
“Adventurous efforts and interventions by the United States and the Zionist regime are the main cause of the continuous chaotic situation in Lebanon,” foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said.
