Malaysia: "Allah" firebombs 4 more churches

Allah did it. Most Muslims wouldn’t do a thing like that. Its only a tiny minority of extremists. Can’t blame all Muslims.  Most Muslims are law abiding citizens, but….   when it comes to Allah there is always a ‘but..’

Malaysia: Even more more churches firebombed over use of “Allah”

In addition to the four already reported. This is why the Malaysian government had to appeal to Muslims not to boil with rage over a court decision allowing a Catholic weekly to use the word “Allah.” The decision is suspended, pending appeal, but in any event, the government’s call for restraint turned out to be quite necessary in the interest of damage control — both figuratively and literally.

It has not been at all successful in the latter sense. “4 more churches attacked in Malaysia in Allah feud,” by Eileen Ng for the Associated Press, January 10, via JW:

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Firebombs were thrown at three more churches in Malaysia on Sunday and another was splashed with black paint, the latest in a series of assaults on Christian houses of worship following a court decision allowing non-Muslims to use “Allah” to refer to God.

Despite the attacks, thousands of Christians nationwide attended Sunday services and prayed for national unity and an end to the violence.

The unprecedented attacks have set off a wave of disquiet among Malaysia’s minority Christians and strained their ties with the majority Malay Muslims. About 9 percent of Malaysia’s 28 million people are Christian, most of whom are ethnic Chinese or Indian. Muslims make up 60 percent of the population and most of them are ethnic Malays.

Religious minorities have often complained about what they say is institutionalized religious discrimination here.

On Sunday, a Molotov cocktail was hurled at the All Saints Church in Taiping town in central Perak state early in the morning before it opened, said state police chief Zulkifli Abdullah. He told The Associated Press police found burn marks on the wall but there was no damage to the building.

A broken kerosene bottle with an unlit wick was found early Sunday inside the compound of the St. Louis Catholic church, also in Taiping, said the Rev. David Lourdes. He said it appeared to be a failed attack.

In southern Malacca state, the outer wall of the Malacca Baptist Church was splashed with black paint, police said.

Home Minister Hishamuddin Hussein said a church in Miri town in eastern Sarawak state on Borneo island also reported an arson attempt.

“The situation is under control and the people should not be worried,” he was quoted as saying by the national Bernama news agency. An aide confirmed his comments but couldn’t give further details.

Four churches were hit by gasoline bombs on Friday and Saturday. No one was hurt and all suffered little damage, except the Metro Tabernacle Church. Parishioners there moved services after fire gutted the first floor. The other churches held regular services Sunday.

The dispute is over a Dec. 31 High Court decision that overturned a government order banning non-Muslims from using the word “Allah” in their prayers and literature. The court was ruling on a petition by Malaysia’s Roman Catholic Church, whose main publication, the Herald, uses the word Allah in its Malay-language edition. The government has appealed the verdict….

  1. The Muslim in Malaysia are brainwashed by UMNO to be like Taliban , UMNO government sow hatred between multiracial population deliberately so that the Muslim live separate from the other races, in mosque throughout the country UMNO government employed imam(leader of mosque) that strictly follow UMNO style fanatic Islamic teaching, they called the non-Malays as infidel belong to the hell, and the Muslim must not follow their way of living, Muslim must wear different clothes ,eat different food, Muslim must not mix with this non-Muslim (infidel), this has caused hatred among Muslim towards non-Muslim through this the government deliberately create intense polarization, the people living without any contact with each others, the Chinese, Indian and Malays living in the same housing area are seldom socialize with each other because of feeling of prejudice created by the government ,3 days back religious clash happen where this fanatics Muslim burned 8 churches and many believe it was sponsored by the government on use of Allah word by the christian and sikhs . So that the muslim always favor UMNO ,So when each election come the Malays Muslim will vote for UMNO dominant party within the ruling coalition (Barisan Nasional) that always won in every five year and the Malay UMNO government will only take care of the Malays Muslim with special rights, privilege and race superiority policies, they have a set on readily available laws like ISA , OSA and seditious act to control and suppress the other races from complaining their grievances. Since independent the Malay Muslim government implemented NEP racist policy where all development plans are exclusively for Malay race. Under the NEP we in Malaysia have 2 citizenship 1st class for the Malay Muslim and 3rd class for non-Muslim, all government form whether it is job application form or any form we need to mention our citizenship , so that they can filter you out from civil service, university , and GLCs (Malaysian company owned Malays Muslim) . Under this NEP lasting for 50 years the government has deliberately created a underclass poor Indian at makes 8 % of the 28 million population ,they are weak economically and politically, this downtrodden Indian deliberately excluded and neglected to be out the estate( rubber plantation) thrown out into quarters area in urban and their living condition are like those south African living during Apartheid time, many Indian teenagers has become thieves and involved in crime because of their poverty poor living standard, often this teenage are shoot to kill like street dogs by the police. When this people raised and demonstrated in 2007, the government catches the leaders and jail them without trial for 2 years in ISA and split the group into pieces. In Malaysia we have 100 of universities called UITM exclusively for Malays, 100 of Malays owned GLC companies that only employed a Malay-Muslim, you hardly fine this in any countries around the world. The rich non-Malays many have migrated to elsewhere and the poor non-Malays are still suffering in silence with the government atrocities. If you people happen to come to south east asia, please visit Malaysia because we are truly racist.

  2. Malaysian Islamic scholar says the use of “Allah” for “God” in Malay-language Bibles “must be abandoned because it erroneously represents the two religions as equal”

That Islamic supremacist impulse is at the heart of the dispute over Malay-speaking Christians’ use of the Arabic loanword “Allah” for “God.” Qur’an 29:46 says “Our Allah and your Allah is One, and unto Him we surrender,” but it is a talking point for Islamic proselytizing, and a one-way line of discourse in a manner in which a non-Muslim would be prohibited from preaching to a Muslim under Islamic law.

Thus, the attempt to deprive Malay Christians of the use of the name they have always used for “God” is both an attempt to subjugate them, reaching even into how they pray, and a public invalidation of the Christian religion in Malaysian society.

The allegation of a “mis-translation” is not new, but a 400-year-old Malay-Latin dictionary shows that Christians’ use of the word “Allah” is far older than the latest round of supremacist posturing against it.

“Malaysia: Christians can not use “Allah” to define God,” from AsiaNews, July 22:

    Kuala Lumpur (AsiaNews / Agencies)
    – The use of “Allah” for God by Christians must stop because it may cause Islamic anger: this is the position of a prominent Islamic Malaysian Mohd Sani Badron in a speech yesterday at the Islamic Understanding Malaysia (Ikimono) reopening the dispute over the Bible translation of the vernacular term to refer to God. The Islamic scholar’s attack comes only a few days after the historic meeting between Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Pope Benedict XVI, a first step toward diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Holy See.
In his text “Kontroversi Nama Khas ‘Allah’ Agama Dalam Konteks Pluralism”, Badron, Director of Economic and Social Studies, said that “the mistranslation of the word ‘God’ as ‘Allah’ in the Malay Bible must be abandoned because it erroneously represents the two religions as equal. ” “The translation of ‘God’ as ‘Allah’ is very wrong, it should be translated correctly … we understand not only the word but the meaning and the meaning is wrong and inaccurate.” He continued: “Looking at the meaning, the correct term for ‘God’ in Christianity is ‘Tuhan’ and the word ‘Lord’ is also ‘Tuhan’, not ‘Allah’.”
Essentially, it’s “Anything But Allah.” It could be Tuhan, or Ernest P. Worrell, as long as the Islamic supremacists can get their way.

The local Catholic newspaper, the ‘”Herald Malaysia” has won a lawsuit at the Supreme Court two years ago for the right to publish the word “Allah” refering to the Christian God , but can not use it because there is a pending appeal by the Ministry, and the case has been dragging on since then at the Court of Appeal. The case of Malay-language Bibles blocked in the ports of Klang and Kuching two years ago, and only recently released showed a clear division between Muslims and non Muslims.
They were only released after a dispute about what the government wanted to stamp on the outside (and in some cases, did print on the covers) to warn people of a “Christian only” publication.

According to Mohd Sani Badron the translation of the Christian God as “Allah” is not respectful. “The term ‘Allah’ is a term of respect for Muslims, this judicial action has spread the perception that Muslims are oppressive, and certainly will raise the ire of the Muslim community.”
But Christians have republished a 400 year old Latin Malay dictionary, which shows that from the beginning the word “Allah” was used to define God in the Bible in local languages.”
