Lebanon urges UN to curb Israel offshore drilling

AFP – Lebanon’s foreign minister on Tuesday asked the United Nations to curb Israel’s offshore drilling plans, days after a US firm announced the discovery of a large field off the Jewish state’s coastline.

“We request you do everything possible to ensure Israel does not exploit Lebanon’s hydrocarbon resources, which fall within Lebanon’s economic zone as delineated in the maps the foreign ministry submitted to the United Nations in 2010,” Foreign Minister Ali Shami said in a letter addressed to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

“Any exploitation by Israel of this resource is a flagrant violation of international law and an attack on Lebanese sovereignty,” read the letter, which was carried by the state-run National News Agency.

US firm Noble Energy announced last week that the Leviathan gas field, offshore from Israel, holds an estimated 450 billion cubic metres (16 trillion cubic feet) of natural gas.

This will boost the Jewish state’s status as the Middle East’s pre-eminent power. The discovery of the world’s biggest offshore gasfield in 10 years is set to make Israel energy-independent for the first time.

A worker at a KFC restaurant in Sydney has been suspended after he was filmed screaming vicious insults and threatening to attack a customer.

The violent outburst happened at a Halal-friendly KFC in Punchbowl on December 26, allegedly after a customer became angry after being refused bacon on their burger.

The Punchbowl restaurant does not serve bacon or pork in accordance with Islamic law, and one employee can be heard saying “we don’t have bacon” before the other begins yelling.

“Don’t record me bitch!” he screams as he approaches the counter. “Don’t f—ing record me!”

The life of young girls in Islam all too often involves forced marriage to men three or four times their age. In Islam, women are commodities, mere possessions, and are bought and sold by men. They move from being possessions of their fathers to possessions of their husbands by means of forced marriage, which is in many areas of the Islamic world the norm, not the exception.

Qur’an 33:21: “Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah. ”

Sahih (“sound,” “reliable”) Bukhari 7.62.88: “The Prophet wrote the (marriage contract) with ‘Aisha while she was six years old and consummated his marriage with her while she was nine years old and she remained with him for nine years (i.e. till his death).”

Qur’an 4:34: “Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever High, Exalted, Great. ”

Sahih Muslim 4.2127: Aisha recalls a time Muhammad “struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you?”

Sahih Bukhari 1.6.301: “‘O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women).’ They asked, ‘Why is it so, O Allah’s Apostle?’ He replied, ‘You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you.’ The women asked, ‘O Allah’s Apostle! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?’ He said, ‘Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?’ [Qur’an 2:282] They replied in the affirmative. He said, ‘This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn’t it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?’ The women replied in the affirmative.
