A Muslim leader has warned Catholics in Indonesia about the threat of Islamic radicalization and even imposition of sharia law.

Safi’i Anwar, executive director of the International Centre for Islam and Pluralism, told a Catholic forum on March 26 in St. Theresia Church in Jakarta that intolerance is rising.

“Indonesia is threatened by radicalism and increasing violence behalf religion. It’s different from 10 years ago when Indonesian Muslims were very tolerant and showed a smiling Islam.”

I am convinced that Western liberal democratic civilization will fall, not because of conquest from outside it, but because its citizenry has ceased understanding right from wrong.

Cultural and moral relativism, political correctness and moral equivalency are the signs that our intellectual elites, in universities and media, predominantly, are confused over the most elementary questions of right versus wrong.

The idea that those who are less powerful can censor the speech of those who are more powerful was recently articulated by an Assistant Professor of Education, named Ozlem Sensoy, at Canada’s Simon Fraser University.  Remember, this is a professor who teaches those who will soon be teaching our elementary and high school students.  And remember, these remarks were specifically about justification of mob rule in censoring free speech, but her arguments can be used (and are being used) by those who would restrict the rest of liberal freedoms.

Last week British columnist Melanie Phillips wrote a blogpost at the Spectator entitled “Armchair barbarism,” discussing the brutal jihad murders of the Fogel family in Israel. Her references to the “moral depravity” of the Arab “savages” who committed the crime have gotten her in hot water with Britain’s hyper-PC Press Complaints Commission, which has launched an investigation.Phillips is being investigated, ironically enough, for writing that “the moral depravity of the Arabs,” as she chose to term the murderers of the Fogels and those in Gaza who celebrated those murders, “is finding a grotesque echo in the moral bankruptcy and worse of the British and American ‘liberal’ media.” And as if on cue, the watchdog organization in Britain of that liberal media swooped down upon her.

Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN condemned “this reprehensible act” as “the work of extremists.” He didn’t mean, of course, any of the recent jihad attacks or plots. What he had in mind was the burning of the Qur’an in Florida, which, as you can see in this story, the OIC is exploiting to renew its jihad against the freedom of speech in the West. The OIC is bent on compelling Western states to criminalize criticism of Islam, which will criminalize any honest examination of the ways in which jihadists use the texts and teachings of Islam to recruit for jihad among peaceful Muslims, thus preempting the formulation of any effective strategy to counter that use.

Terry Jones is neither a priest nor a Catholic, but the Islamic Republic’s Ahlul Bayt News Agency cannot be expected to have mastered the intricacies of Christian sectarianism. But note in any case that we have never seen such outrage and indignation from Islamic ambassadors or any other Muslims regarding any of the jihad terror attacks and plots against non-Muslims in the U.S. or Europe. These so-called “hijackings” of their peaceful faith never seem to move them to this kind of outrage. Note also that the ambassadors are trying to use this incident to attempt yet again to restrict the West’s freedom of speech regarding Islam, jihad and Islamic supremacism.

I’m not really surprised that the mainstream media is still peddling such corrosive drivel, but Zakaria might have been kind enough to take even cursory notice of recent stories such as these:

Over 200 people were arrested as extremists brought violent chaos to central London yesterday after hijacking the much-heralded trade union protest against public spending cuts.

A massive clear-up operation was underway today after trouble continued to flare late into the night as hundreds of people clashed with officers in Trafalgar Square.

Police confirmed 201 people were in custody and there had been 84 reported injuries during the protests. At least 31 police were hurt with 11 of them requiring hospital treatment.

The newspaper quotes a war correspondent Vladislav Voloshin, who later returned from Libya last February to Ukraine in the same plane as Galina Kolotnitska.

“Yes, indeed she is expecting her second baby,” Voloshin said.

He added that “Galina looking at the possibility of returning to Libya as soon as possible.”

This is truly shameful rhetoric: the very stuff of hyperbole, exaggeration and self-magnification. It has echoes of his predecessor windbag, Neil Kinnock. Except that Ed Miliband is smaller and shriller in every sense. Juxtaposing a protest march against government cuts with the gross injustices and inequalities of apartheid, votes for women and racial equality is preposterous. Miliband’s grandilquence demeans the sacrifice of those who spent years in prison and ultimately paid with their lives. His high-profile participation on this march makes him look more like an obsessive Arthur Scargill than a Keir Hardie; more like an extremist Ken Livingstone than a New Labour heir-to-Blair. Ed Miliband will live to regret this. Indeed, as the media now juxtapose his speech with images of appalling violence and vandalism, his credibility (what little he had) may now be gone forever. TRIPOLI, Libya (AP/THE BLAZE) — A distraught Libyan woman stormed into a Tripoli hotel Saturday to tell foreign reporters that government troops raped her, setting off a brawl when hotel staff and government minders tried to detained her.

According to Sky News:

As journalists tried to speak to her, things got out of control and the police minders waded in, trying to physically shut her up and stop her talking.

Hers is not the voice they want heard in this country. In the commotion a gun was pointed towards the Sky News team in an attempt to stop them filming.

A team from another news organisation had their camera smashed in front of them.

After about 15 minutes the woman was dragged outside the hotel and put into a waiting car.
