The latest lunacy:Â Syrians slaughter Syrians, says Adnan Azzam, a French-Syrian writer, not because they are a bunch of fratricidal clans and tribes with competing visions of Islam, but because Jews and, er, Napoleon are in control.

This spellbinding theory comes not from some ignorant, unhinged imam, but an ignorant, unhinged Syrian-French intellectual, a Knight of the Légion d’honneur, the highest honor France can bestow.
I presume Azzam is not even aware that the Légion d’honneur was established by Napoleon, whom he accuses of being a secret Zionist.

Perfectly Western On The Outside, Crazed From Living Within The Islamic Context
Here is Adnan Azzam. He wears a white shirt, a tie, has well-cut grey hair, looks as if he might well be a Western, French, man. He lives in France, and is described as a Franco-Syrian.
But he is a Druse from Syria. He’s not an Arab, and not even a full-fledged Muslim. But he has accepted the crazed worldview, the Zionist-conspiracy worldview, that allows him to believe that Napoleon was recruited, while still a young man on Corsica, to promote the aims of the “Zionists.” It’s so crazy, in so many ways, but he is not kidding. He’s crazed.
How did he get that way?
He got that way because the Ba’athist regime that was meant to disguies the Alawite despotism, has been plus royaliste que le roi — that is, more aggressively anti-Israel, even, than some Sunni Arabs. It has thus aimed to establish its doubtful bona fides as a “Muslim” state, one which is thoroughly enrolled in, and enthusiastic about, the Jihad to destroy the Infidel nation-state of Israel.
This particular physically-presentable Druse, whose outside is definitely not the outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace, is one among many. All kinds of Christians in Syria, too — Melkites, Orthodox — have for so long, in order to protect themselves, accepted and parroted the crazy Zionist-conspiracy business that they actually believe it, are incapable of grasping their own reality.
There’s a whole lot of craziness that Islam inspires, or creates, or provokes — even among those non-Muslims who are forced to live, in great physical insecurity, in lands where Muslims predominate. Islam stunts mental growth. And it stunts the mental growth, too, of a considerable number of non-Muslims forced to live in Musliim-ruled or Muslim-populated lands.
In Dar al-Islam, some are born crazy, some attain craziness, and some have craziness thrust upon them.
