Acting Commissioner Stephen Brown announced the organisation’s intention today after meeting with seven senior Islamic leaders.

“I’m really keen, West Australian police are really keen, to recruit more people from the Australian Muslim community to gain better understanding of the challenges they face within the broader community,” Mr Brown said.

“We are working hand in hand with them to make sure they can live out their life as Australians to the absolute fullest.”

It was the first meeting between senior police and WA Islamic leaders since raids in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne targeting Muslim Australians allegedly connected to Islamic State.

Sheikh Burhanan Mehtar said he hoped the community move past the negative portrayal of Muslims that accompanied those incidents.

Acting WA Police Commissioner Stephen Brown, Muslim Youth WA founding member Shameema Kolia, Sheikh Omran Mahmoud, Sheikh Burhaan Mehtar, Australian Islamic College dean Ustadh Wahaj Tarin, Muslim Theological Council president Sheikh Ghafoor Faizel, Mufti Shabir Moosa and Wangara Imam Yusuf Parker.

“As a Muslim community we always have this worry and concern as to how the media portray certain issues,” he said.

“Our worry and concern is always as peaceful, peace-loving West Australians, West Australian Muslims, we wish for the wider society and especially the media to appreciate our contribution that we are making to the wider society.

“We categorically denounce any forms of extremism, any forms of terrorism, and we do not support any group that is out there causing an imbalance to the peaceful and harmonious existence of humans.”

Muslim Youth WA founding member Shameema Kolia said some Muslim women in WA had been the target of racist attacks since the raids, but said those incidents had been “isolated.”

“Muslim women are clearly visible and you can see that difference, so we have had incidents in Perth where people have passed comments at women to go back where they have come from, talking about their dress, do you have a bomb under your scarf, that sort of thing,” she said.

“What I would say to those people is, I’m as Australian as you are.

“I might be wearing something different on my head but I think if you try and get to know someone like me or any other Muslims then you will see that we have a lot more similarities than we have differences.”

Sheikh Mehtar said Masjid Ibrahim mosque in Southern River would have an open day on Saturday October 25 for members of the non-Muslim community who had questions about Islam.

“Come along, have a barbecue and just talk as Australians.” he said.

The men – aged between 20 and 21 – have been in custody since Tuesday after counter-terror officers disrupted what was believed to be the early stages of what could have turned into a “significant plot” His neighbour, Nacer Dahmas, said he had known the suspected extremist since he was a child and described him as a “good boy, educated in Britain”, adding that Kheder would often assist with his disabilities.

“My son told me this was about terrorism – in my opinion, this is a mistake. He is a good, kind boy. I was very surprised,” he said.

A governor in Anbar Province asks the Iraqi government to “demand” that the American troops come to the rescue of Sunnis in Iraq. Why should we? Why can’t the Iraqi army, police, the Shi’a militia who, all of whom amount to nearly a million men under arms, who have been supplied over the past decade with more than $25 billion in American military equipment (including top-of-the-line materiel left behind)  show they are capable of fighting on their own? And why should Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, the Emirates (the best of the lot), who have hundreds of billions in military equipmewnt, not give some of that not only to the Iraqis, if they need it, but to the Lebanese?  (Continued below the fold…)

Arab Gulf States Have Hundreds Of Billions In Armaments, But Arabs Keep Demanding America Defend Them

Well, one reason is that while these fabulously rich and well-armed states have the wherewithal in money and materiel, they don’t really want to help the Shi’a regime in Iraq against the Uber-Sunnis of the Islamic State. And they want the American army to fight the Muslims who, because they are true-blue undiluted Muslims, are a danger to the families who run Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, the Emirates, and whose behavior in the fleshpots of the West can be, and is seen, as not only “decadent” but also as “un-Islamic.” And that is what they dislike about the iIslamic state — not the killing of Christians and Yazidis, not the beheadings of Westerners, not the re-niqabbing of women who yesterday did not even wear a hijab, not the banning of music, not the spirit of complete and total submission to Islam in all its life-crushing nastiness, but only the threat to those ruling families and their courtiers.

This day’s news comes from Lebanon, where the demand is made that “the Americans” give more aid, beyond the $700 million in aid already given, to help a place called “Lebanon” fight the Islamic State. But why can’t such aid be requested from Saudi Arabia or Qatar or even Turkey? And if it is Hezbollah that is most worriied about the Sunnis of the Islamic State, why shouldn’t they call on, and be a burden to, Iran to supply materiel and perhaps even  men?

How is it that the Muslim Arabs dare to even think they can call on the United States to sacrifice its soldiers, and to keep supplying them with weaponry, which weaponry has an amazing way of ending up in the hands of the Islamic State?

The chutzpah, the cheek, the gall of it all, even if you do divide it in partes tres.

“He has had a lot of people come and visit him (in prison), young people, and some of them before they’ve gone overseas.”– So there you have it. They don’t visit him so he can talk them out of it, they come to see him to get his blessings for the jihad.

Benbrika still a hero to some in this land of mass immigration

That we let him in from Algeria in the first place is troubling. That he still has followers here is alarming:

The growth in Benbrika’s influence in recent months has alarmed authorities, who have been forced to move him to a different Victorian prison after several of his followers travelled to Syria to fight with Islamic State after visiting him in jail…

Officials are concerned about the number and type of visitors Benbrika is receiving in jail, including new followers who were too young to have associated with him during his terror plot in 2005.

“He has had a lot of people come and visit him (in prison), young people, and some of them before they’ve gone overseas,” a source said.

In this context, debates have arisen in The Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Germany and Britain about whether certain elements of national culture need to be preserved from the diluting effects of immigration. The Dutch and Germans have framed it as preservation of social democratic values, the French as preservation of secularism, in Britain as Britishness.

If we are to continue welcoming new migrants, as I think we should, and if we are to receive them in large numbers, as I think we should, Australia needs to pre-empt this national discussion before we find ourselves knee deep in cultural problems of the kinds causing social disharmony in Europe…

There are no doubt only tiny elements of the Muslim community who support a caliphate. However, there are undeniably somewhat larger elements of the community whose views are illiberal, sexist, homophobic and racist.

It’s been a while since we heard a clanger like the “unwrapped meat that attracts the cats” comments made after the western Sydney gang rapes, but Muslim community leaders have made it clear too often that they do not embrace our modern progressive culture.

If we are content to insist these concerns are only racism, the long-term response will be lower rates of immigration.

If we can’t have a frank conversation about the standards of integration we expect from new migrants and the values we expect them to share, then voters will pursue the silent solution of electing politicians who don’t support immigration.

But how do we have a “discussion” with the head of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Australia, who says the goal of all Muslims is to spread the Islamist “revolution” in Syria to the rest of the world (from 28:54)?:

Italy’s Mediterranean Sea mission, which has rescued more than 90,000 migrants in the past year, will go on, the prime minister said on Friday…

Italy has repeatedly called for the European Union to contribute more to its Mare Nostrum, or “Our Sea”, search-and-rescue mission, which costs the navy 9 million euros a month to run. So far, member states have not stepped up…

Mare Nostrum began after more than 360 men, women and children drowned when their boat capsized a mile off the Italian island of Lampedusa…. It drew international media attention and led Pope Francis and human rights organisations to call for more global attention to the plight of migrants.

That conspicuous compassion had exactly the same deadly price as we saw here:

A record 3,072 migrants have died trying to cross the Mediterranean in rickety boats so far this year, against some 2,360 in 2013, the International Organisation for Migration said on Monday.

And, of course, there will be the friction involved in trying to absorb tens of thousands of people largely from tribal cultures and and a militant faith.

Reluctant ISIS Jihadists ‘Tied to Tanks to Force Them to Fight‘

John Kerry says as horrific as it is to watch what’s happening in Kobani it’s just not part of our “strategic objective” against ISIS. Because Obama is in Turkey’s pocket.

We are at war, but we are not really at war because its not the U.S. against ISIL, they are at war with the world, but…we can’t really hurt them because then all Muslims would hate us, or something….
