Turnbull dines with pet Muslims

Beneath contempt. He even recites the koran for them.

“O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another.”–Surah al-Hujurat (49:13)

Just saw that snippet on the ABC.

Malcolm Turnbull panders to the Muslim community by holding a Ramadan dinner at which he poses with the most media-friendly – but unrepresentative – Muslims he can find:

Mr Turnbull broke bread with religious leaders and prominent Islamic Australians at an Iftar dinner to mark the holy month of Ramadan at Kirribilli House on Thursday night… He’s the first Prime Minister ever to host such an event…

On his right side:

… broadcasting power couple The Project host Waleed Aly and wife Susan Carland …

And on Turnbull’s left:

… Islamic youth advocate Yassmin Abdel-Magied …

Note: Turnbull does not sit next to any Muslim religious leader at a dinner to mark a religious event. He does not sit next to a Muslim who actually represents – officially – other Muslims in an elected capacity.

He does not sit next to Australia’s Grand Mufti, who said the Islamist slaughter in Paris was the fault of the West.

He does not sit next to former Mufti Sheikh Hilali, who said suicide bombers were “heroes” and praised the September 11 terror attacks as ”God’s work against oppressors”.

He does not sit next to another former Grand Mufti, Sheikh Fehmi, who praises the Hezbollah terrorist group.

He does not sit next to Sheik Wahwah, head of Hizb ut Tahrir in Australia, who threatens Jews with ”an eye for any eye, blood for blood”, claiming that where Jews live ”corruption abounds”.

He does not sit next to Sheikh Omran, emir of the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah school of Islamic thought, who once described al Qaeda head Osama bin Laden as “a good man in some ways, and not in other ways” and also said ”I dispute any evil action linked to bin Laden”.

No, he sits next to a white convert who is a university lecturer and wife of a TV star and Logie winner, and to a young female engineer who is a Q&A favorite.

And not a burqa in sight.

This seating arrangement is designed not to present Islam as it really is in Australia but as Turnbull would like us to believe. And it is designed above all to add lustre to Turnbull himself.

Michael Smith has this:

Chairman Mal hosts Ramadan dinner at Kiribilli with Waleed Aly – speaks of Islamic values of democracy and love for others

UPDATE – we are indebted to Stu of NT for this remark nailing Turnbull.   Thanks Stu for putting this whole thing in perspective and for the important insight into “look-at-me” Malcolm the Superior.

@mpsmithnews couldn’t meet the diggers, couldn’t do a parma with 100 undecided at Bronco leagues, doesn’t want to politicise events? FFS!

Tonight the Chairman turned the taxpayer funded largesse on for a celebration of Ramadan.   Along with celebrity Muslim Waleed Aly and a host of Hijabs the Chairman celebrated our shared values with Islam including democracy, the rule of law and above all, the very top of the list – love for all other humans.

No one told him he was dreaming.

He puts the Australian Liberty Alliance last on how to vote (behind the Greens and Labor) but hosts a dinner to celebrate Ramadan at taxpayer expense at his Official Residence.

Strange view of conservative values Malcolm.

UPDATE

I did have a brief debate once with Carland. Watch it here.

UPDATE

I should apologise to Turnbull. He did invite some clerics to sit at the back, leading to the inevitable social awkwardness when one espoused the Islamic view on the punishment of adulterers and gays:

An Islamic preacher – who once called AIDS a divine punishment for gays and for God to “prepare us for jihad” – dined with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at Kirribilli House tonight.

Sheik Shady Al-Suleiman, the national president of the Australian National Imams Council, has said in online videos that females will be “hung by the breasts in hell” and that women should not even look at men…

The Australian-born Sheik Shady has previously called on God to help “destroy the enemies of Islam” and for adulterers to be stoned to death …

The sheik is not keen on gays, as he made clear in one lecture:

What’s the most common disease these days? HIV, AIDS, that’s so common and there’s no cure whatsoever. And when did it exist? Decades ago. And more diseases are coming. And most of the diseases these days, if you speak to a doctor, the most terrifying diseases come from what? From sexual activities, where in someone who is not clean sleeping with someone who is clean. Also homosexuality that is spreading all these diseases… These are evil actions that bring evil outcomes to our society.

Stone the adulterers, says Turnbull’s dinner guest:

And remember that if there is an Islamic state the punishment of zina, the punishment of those who commit zina, if they have never been married before, they will be lashed 100 lashes. And if they are married while they committed zina, or previously been married and divorced, and they committed zina, then their punishment is stoning to death…[I]t’s so big and so humongous that sin that the sharia had laid a penalty down of stoning if those who commit zina had previously been married before.

The sheikh rages against “the Jews” as well:

Turnbull should try to ask his guest to a Christmas party. Let’s see if the Sheikh’s response will match his sermon:

A New Year’s party, it’s worship of Satan. A Christmas party, it’s worship of Satan. Any other events are worship of Satan.

May I suggest that this national president of the Australian National Imams Council represents Islam more than does Susan Carland.

(Thanks to Michael Smith, who has much more on Turnbull’s dinner guest.)

UPDATE

Why don’t gay groups and the Greens confront homophobia at this religious source?

A prominent Islamic psychologist who this week voiced solidarity with LGBTI Muslims following the Orlando nightclub massacre has previously denounced homosexuality as “evil” and a “social dilemma”, saying sexual orientation could be changed through intensive psychotherapy.

Hanan Dover, who runs eight psychology practices in Sydney’s west, has also criticised secular colleagues who have urged Islam to become progressive and accept homosexual behaviour because they feel sorry for Muslim patients struggling with their feelings.

“If Allah loves homosexuals, he will also love thieves, murderers, liars, hypocrites, criminals,” Ms Dover told a public forum held at the University of Western Sydney in 2002.

“Did Allah make a mistake and say that homosexuality is (a sin) for about 1400 years and when humans are ready, they can start disobeying my laws … and I will start accepting all evils? C’mon!”…

  1. Buddhism is Australia’s fastest growing religion, (or is it Jedi?) Buddhists outnumber Muslims yet they are not in any Q&A panel, nor subject to hand wringing angst by politicians and inner city types.
