A lot of sites are focusing on the Islamic equivalence in the Pope’s remarks, but there are plenty of other examples of him simply not understanding how the world works.

Q: On April 16, you made a powerful gesture by bringing back the refugees from Lesbos to Rome. However, does Europe have the capacity to accept so many migrants ?

Pope Francis : That is a fair and responsible question because one cannot open the gates wide unreasonably. However, the deeper question is why there are so many migrants now. When I went to Lampedusa three years ago, this phenomenon had already started.

The initial problems are the wars in the Middle East and in Africa as well as the underdevelopment of the African continent, which causes hunger. If there are wars, it is because there exist arms manufacturers – which can be justified for defensive purposes – and above all arms traffickers.

Now this has nothing to do with refugees.

Europe faces an ‘increased risk’ from terrorists due to the migrant crisis, Interpol warned yesterday.

The international crime-fighting agency said migrant numbers are likely to top the 1 million who entered Europe last year, despite desperate efforts by the EU, adding extremist groups were making ‘opportunistic use of migrant smuggling networks’.

The report found criminal gangs made £4 billion from smuggling migrants into Europe last year and will continue to thrive, with 800,000 migrants in Libya alone now ‘waiting to travel to the EU’.

It comes as French police said yesterday they had broken up a smuggling network using yachts to bring migrants to Britain after finding seven Ukrainians hidden on a boat on the coast of Brittany in France. Two skippers and three suspected smugglers were detained on Friday.

Interpol’s report was jointly written with the Europol crime agency, whose director Rob Wainwright said another attack inspired by Islamic State is ‘almost certain’.

Nine out of 10 migrants who entered the EU in 2015 relied on people smuggling networks according to the report.

The overwhelming majority relying on ‘facilitation services’ from criminals working together along the routes, and most paid £2,300-£5,000.

To launder the money and integrate it into the legitimate economy, couriers carried large amounts of cash over borders, and smugglers ran their proceeds through car dealerships, grocery stores, restaurants or transport companies.

EU slammed for ‘lack of vision’ in migrant crisis response

The EU is facing further criticism over its handling of the migrant crisis.

The UN high commissioner for refugees, Filippo Grandi, is reported to have said that just turning people away won’t work.

He has called for more countries to help ease the pressure.

The response has also been slammed by a UN human rights envoy, who has been visiting camps and other facilities in Greece. :

“I think that there is a lack of vision at EU level. We need a much more structured, long term strategy….”

Grandi is a dolt.

ISLAMIC radicals Devout Muslims in Melbourne and Sydney have established a fighting fund to help with the legal fees for five men who attempted to flee to Syria via boat. The five, who are all from Melbourne, have been charged with terrorism offences after they were arrested north of Cairns towing a 7m fishing boat en route to Cape York.

Cerantonio, Shayden Thorne, Kadir Kaya, Antonio Granata and Paul Dacre will all face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with making preparations for incursions into foreign countries to engage in hostile activities.

They face a maximum penalty of life in jail if found guilty.

I have previously argued that Australia has a responsibility to stop those wanting to leave our shores to commit violent jihad in foreign lands.

But I’ve changed my mind.

Increased terrorist events in Western nations and the harsh reality of home-grown terrorism have led me to question why we are putting ourselves at increased risk for the sake of fulfilling our obligations as exemplary global citizens. Australia’s number one priority should be to keep her citizens safe; every other consideration is secondary.
