A SYRIAN refugee on the sex offenders register after indecent assault convictions is set to be granted Australian citizenship because a tribunal found he now understood the laws and customs of Australia.
The ruling in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal found against the government, which had refused to grant the sex offender citizenship.
Tribunal member Regina Perton said there were registered sex offenders who posed no risk of harm or reoffending and she was told the 45-year-old man now understood Australian laws and customs.
