‘Drag Your Kids To Pride’ Event Sparks Outrage And Protests

Controversy over drag queen story hour at libraries and elementary schools has captured recent media attention, as has a recent incidence of a transgender male camp counselor sleeping in a cabin for young girls at a California summer camp.

The NSW government is banking on a visitor spend of more than $100 million when Sydney hosts WorldPride early next year.
That’s hyperbole on steroids. It will be a loss-making enterprise and the taxpayer will have to cough up the money the city loses.

When Sydney hosts next year’s WorldPride festival, it will not only be one of the city’s biggest events since the 2000 Olympics, but it will also be the catalyst to symbolically reopen to the world.
The global LGBTQ party is held every two years by a roving host city and typically attracts tens of thousands of international visitors. Since 2000 it has been celebrated in London, Madrid, New York and Toronto among others; Sydney will be its first time in the southern hemisphere.
“It’s a full city takeover,” Wickett said. “It’s going to be a queer takeover, but it’s for everyone.”
