In some states (CA, NY, etc), the govt already has control of your rental property. For example, govt declares eviction moratorium with little to no compensation, rent increase control, tenant right to buy your property at a ‘reasonable’ price before anyone else, fines if you leave your property vacant, forced Sec 8 acceptance, tenant expanded rights to sue, landlords pay for tenants’ lawyers if you try to evict, restrictions on looking at credit and crime history of potential tenants, restrictions on fees and deposits, moving compensation to tenants and on and on. Hard to believe isn’t it? Not all states do this but it is a growing trend the Supreme Court should put a stop to because it is taking without compensation.
