IDF Smokes Al Jazeera Journo — Was Riding with Hamas Drone Operator
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Sunday that an Al Jazeera journalist and another reporter who were killed in an airstrike in Gaza on Sunday were riding in a vehicle with a Hamas terrorist who was a drone operator.
Al Jazeera’s role in covering the war has been under scrutiny, as it airs anti-Israel propaganda — and cuts off Palestinians who complain (much to the surprise of Al Jazeera reporters) about Hamas.
On January 7, media outlets widely reported that Israel had killed two Palestinian “journalists” in Gaza. The two “journalists” were freelancers, both working for Al Jazeera: Hamza Al-Dahdouh and Mustafa Thuraya.

What happened today.
■ LEBANON: A 70-year-old Israeli woman and her 40-year-old son were killed when an anti-tank missile fired by Hezbollah hit a home in Kfar Yuval in Israel’s north.
IDF fighter jets attacked Hezbollah targets in Lebanese territory, including an operational headquarters, the IDF said. Several launches from Lebanon into Israeli territory were detected, according to the IDF.
IDF soldiers patrolling along the border with Lebanon killed four militants who had crossed into Israeli territory Saturday night, the IDF said. A Palestinian organization in Lebanon, identifying itself as the “Al-Az Al-Islami” brigades, accepted responsibility, saying it was a response to the assassination of senior Hamas officials.
Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said that Hezbollah will not stop fighting Israel, in a speech he gave on Sunday. “They are asking us to stop fighting to prevent Israel from starting a war with Lebanon,” Nasrallah said, adding “These have been idle threats for a hundred days, and they will never affect us.”
Referring to recent U.S. and U.K. strikes against Yemen’s Houthis who, like Hezbollah, are backed by Iran, Nasrallah said that “American aggression in the Red Sea will harm freedom of navigation” and turn it into “a battlefield,” adding that the U.S. “should know that the situation in the Red Sea and the developments in Iraq and Lebanon all depend on stopping the war in Gaza.”
■ HOSTAGES: Marking 100 days since their capture on October 7, a rally held for the release of the hostages in Gaza continued throughout the night in the Tel Aviv plaza dubbed “Hostages Square” into Sunday.
The crowd, whose size fluctuated between the hundreds and tens of thousands, was addressed by numerous freed hostages, families of hostages still held captive, Israel’s president, opposition leader Yair Lapid and the U.S. Ambassador to Israel.
At 11:00 A.M. rally participants in the square stood for 100 seconds of silence. At the same time, a 100-minute strike of businesses across Israel began in solidarity with the hostages.
Speaking at the rally, Lishi Miran, whose partner Omri was taken hostage from Kibbutz Nir Oz, asked the government and IDF: “What victory are you talking about? You have abandoned us, we have no physical home and our hearts have been taken away.”

■ GAZA: Qatar has been supplied with prescription medicine needed by chronically ill Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. The medicine is supposed to be given to captives “in the next few days” following a Doha-brokered deal.
The Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in Gaza said a total of 23,968 Palestinians have been killed and 60,582 have been wounded since the war began.
■ ISRAEL: The head of the Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, Ronen Bar, intends to resign once the war ends, taking responsibility for his part in the failure that led to the Hamas attack on October 7, former Shin Bet chief Jacob Perry said in an interview on Sunday.
Ahmad Tibi, a lawmaker from the Arab-Jewish Hadash-Ta’al party, posted on Facebook that three of his relatives were killed in an Israeli airstrike in central Gaza.
The IDF announced that Sgt. 1st Class (Res.) Andualem Kabada, 21, was killed in the southern Gaza Strip.
■ WEST BANK: The IDF said that soldiers chased and killed two Palestinians who broke through a military checkpoint with a vehicle north of Hebron. A rifle, ammunition and an ax were found in their possession, according to the IDF.
A Palestinian man was killed by IDF fire near the city of Jericho, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Ramallah said.
The two sisters of senior Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri, who was killed in an assassination attributed to Israel in Beirut about two weeks ago, were arrested Sunday morning by the IDF north of Ramallah. The two have recently appeared in Palestinian and Arab media, praising their brother after his death.
