Food for thought. Our rights have been sold by treacherous politicians. The nanny state is a communist regime.
THE CONSEQUENCES OF COMMUNISM
Declining rates of marriage and birth, increasing rates of suicide and depression. Censorship, over-taxation, dwindling trust in public institutions. Mass migration. Unaffordable housing. Poverty, weak political leaders, unreliable power grids. This is the modern West, and these are signs of an ill society, a collapsing society. This collapse seems to me to have been precipitated by the noxious tentacles of Neo-Marxist thought reaching into every field, every industry, and every institution.
In the past when I have claimed that the West is communist, I have received pushback. The uneducated and uninformed think that the fact you are able to ‘own’ a piece of real estate and keep ‘money’ in a bank means that the West is not communist. But Neo-Marxism is more insidious, more stealthy than the communism of the past, and I encourage the reader to actually think instead of merely ingesting whatever propaganda free-to-air television force-feeds you about our economy.
Because the West is no longer a capitalistic meritocracy focussed on maximising individual liberty. Instead, it is a socialist DEI experiment. Real economic growth and technological advancement are a mere afterthought. Public and private money is siphoned off to be wasted on initiatives which offer no tangible return. In Australia, the State is the largest industry, the largest employer. 1 in 5 Australian workers are now employed directly by the State, and many more work in other industries that are reliant on government contracts (lawyers, accountants, consultants, construction companies, etc). 82% of all new jobs created in the two years to August 2024 were public sector jobs. The public sector pays more than the private sector, on average. 30% of the federal budget is spent on welfare (that figure rises to 40% if you count Medicare). Indeed, the Neo-Marxists believe they can centrally plan the entire economy by determining interest rates based on some arbitrary inflation figure – a disastrous experiment which has resulted in asset prices becoming decoupled from wage growth.
With this in mind, it is no coincidence that the nation is in a per capita recession and has been for seven consecutive quarters. The economy is being strangled by the State and large corporations, and the distinction between these two entities is diminishing rapidly. Because the leaders of Western nations now take lessons in economics from Xi Jinping, instead of Friedman, Rothbard, and Mises (et al). Communism fails. Every time. No matter how much it is dressed up, or concealed.
On top of this, the West seems to be hell-bent on committing seppuku at the Altar of Equity based on some false narrative that it is inherently evil. This is not new, but it is intensifying. In a 1945 essay entitled Notes on Nationalism, George Orwell observed that ‘[w]ithin the intelligentsia, a derisive and mildly hostile attitude towards Britain is more or less compulsory’. In 2025, some 80 years later, the subtle, underlying, negative attitude towards Britain which was held by a small segment of Britain’s population has expanded and intensified so that a large segment of the population of the West is openly hostile towards the West.
I say this for three reasons. Firstly, the ‘derisive and mildly hostile attitude’ described by Orwell has today intensified, and been replaced by a reviling, open hostility. This particular genre of hostility is, in my view, particularly insidious. A false narrative has been adopted which allows discriminatory attitudes towards the West to be worn as a badge of moral superiority. Modern schooling and media ceaselessly bleat out the message of an inherently evil and immoral West. And since the West is inherently evil, hating it is not only justified, but ethical (or so goes the conventional wisdom). This means that the person who openly hates themselves, their ancestors, and their nation is rewarded and venerated by their peers. Secondly, in 2025, ‘Britain’ could be replaced with any nation that was previously part of the British Empire and the accuracy of the quote would remain. A sense of self-loathing is considered not only necessary, but honourable, in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, etc. Thirdly, the so-called ‘intelligentsia’ comprises a much larger proportion of the population in 2025 than it did in 1945. This means that the attitude identified by Orwell which was once confined to a small segment of the population is now more widespread, pervasive, malignant. But, today, we do not call them ‘intelligentsia’. Instead, we modern folk would recognise them as the hordes of indoctrinated Neo-Marxists who roll out of our higher education institutions like mass-produced robots to occupy managerial positions in large corporations and government (the Laptop Class, if you will). With this in mind, if Orwell were writing today he might observe that ‘within the Laptop Class, a reviling and openly hostile attitude towards the West is celebrated’.
But to many Westerners it is arguable whether any purported so-called crime was even committed by generations passed. Because if one simply extracts himself from the propaganda prison and looks upon the modern world, the first world, one sees that it is predominantly the end result of Western Excellence. Our technology, language, legal and political system, architecture, art, social customs, societal norms, holidays, etc: these were all borne out of a European culture. The same culture that we are told to hate, that we are told falls short of our Modern Moral Standards, that we are told we must now abandon; this is the culture that brought forth this civilised world of which we are benefactors (of an increasingly ungrateful kind).
It is entirely uninspiring to live in a self-loathing society that is stagnating and self-flagellating out of some misguided sense of guilt. This faux-intellectual malaise is suffocating. Because in this type of society, the self-respecting, conscientious, industrious, intelligent young Westerner who is called to something greater, be it the divine or simply excellence, is not encouraged to pursue hard work, progress, self-actualisation. Instead, the Laptop Class tells them that the sins of their fathers were so grave that they must make themselves smaller, less important, to make room for someone who holds a higher position than them on the Victimhood Hierarchy.
No Era of Prosperity will be wrought by a society infected with the disease of self-hatred founded in Marxist ideology. Indeed, such a society is doomed to failure. Eschewing the culture and legacy of our forefathers entirely risks throwing the baby out with the bathwater (assuming that, after careful consideration, there is any bathwater that we consider should be thrown out – as I alluded to above, I am not convinced of this). Because what happens when you pull the pillars out from underneath your society? Without support it will surely collapse in on itself. Many (including myself) would argue that this is what we are watching happen in real time in the West. And the young Westerner does not want to decay or deteriorate along with it. He wants to participate in a Golden Age, a Revolution. He wants to stand on the shoulders of those giants who came before him and experience greatness whilst he still has his youth, vitality, energy.
This social milieu is what you must bear in mind for the remainder of this essay: the West is not what it once was. Its citizens know this, and feel as though they have been sold out in the name of this Neo-Marxist globalism that has seduced the Laptop Class. As these people feel continuously poorer, they watch politicians and global corporations become enriched whilst colluding to bring about a socialist technocracy. It’s a tinder box waiting for a match.
