US government warns Australia to stop censoring free speech
The United States government has warned Australia to halt its crackdown on free speech following the election of a left wing government for a second term.

The U.S. State Department has formally criticised the Albanese Government for censoring Billboard Chris — a Canadian dad who speaks out against the chemical and surgical castration of children.
Yes, the United States is now warning Australia that it must respect freedom of speech — in a hint that this issue could affect future trade relations.
Here’s what happened:
Chris Elston, better known as Billboard Chris, posted on X in April 2024 about Teddy Cook, an Australian transgender activist appointed to a World Health Organisation panel.
His post quoted a Daily Mail article and included this simple message: “Children are beautiful just as they are. No drugs or scalpels needed.”
Australia’s eSafety Commissioner responded by issuing a takedown notice — claiming the way he used pronouns was “likely intended to cause serious harm.”
As a result, the post is now geoblocked in Australia — meaning Australians can’t even see it unless they’re using a VPN.
But the U.S. government did see it — and they weren’t impressed.
In an official statement from the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, the U.S. said:
“Even when content may be objectionable, censorship undermines democracy, suppresses political opponents, and degrades public safety. Freedom of expression must be protected — online and offline.”
They also named Australia, the EU, and Turkey as governments pressuring US-based tech companies to silence political dissent.
How embarrassing.
Australia — once seen as a free, democratic nation — is now lumped together with regimes that suppress speech to maintain control.
And it’s not just about one activist.
Chris Elston is currently fighting the censorship order in an Australian tribunal, with legal support from ADF International and the Human Rights Law Alliance. He called the US government’s stance “a beacon of liberty” — especially under the Trump administration.
What’s really at stake here?

Julie Inman Grant — Australia’s eSafety Commissioner and a former Twitter exec censor with CIA/FBI affiliation — once told a World Economic Forum panel that human rights like free speech need “recalibration.” She also dismissed the U.S. First Amendment by saying it “does not apply in Australia.”
Well, now the U.S. is pushing back.
Australia’s Online Safety Act gives bureaucrats the power to muzzle people under vague and subjective terms like “serious harm.”
But when truth becomes “harm,” freedom withers.
This is a defining moment. Not just for Billboard Chris, but for every parent, pastor, and ordinary citizen who believes children deserve protection, not mutilation — and that the truth still belongs in the public square.
