Iran’s Supreme Leader has declared the “battle has begun” in his first public statement since US President Donald Trump said the US would spare him from assassination “for now.”
In a chilling threat, Iranian state TV has also warned of a “major surprise tonight”, one it claims the world will “remember for centuries”.
President Trump left the G7 meeting of wold leaders in Canada on Monday, local time, to return to Washington DC to deal with the unfolding crisis. On Tuesday, he chaired a meeting of his national security council.
In a series of social media posts, he called for Iran’s “unconditional surrender”.
He also wrote that the US knows where Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei apparently threatening to kill him.
“We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now,” he said, ominously.
This all comes as US bombers and refuelling planes have been positioning closer towards the Middle East.
‘All-out war’ if US joins conflict, Iran warns
A spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry warns American intervention in Tehran’s ongoing conflict with Israel would spark “an all-out war.”
Esmail Baghaei made the comments during his first live interview in the conflict on Al Jazeera.“Any American intervention would be a recipe for an all-out war in the region,” he said about 6.30pm Sydney time.
President Donald Trump initially distanced himself from Israel’s attacks on Iran but has hinted at increased US involvement, expressing a desire for something ‘much bigger’ than a ceasefire.
On Tuesday, the BBC reported that at least 30 US military planes have been moved from bases in America to Europe over the past three days
‘The battle begins’: Iran issues warning
Iran’s supreme leader has issued a chilling warning hours after US President Donald Trump declared he would be spared from assassination “for now”.
Taking to X, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned: “In the name of the noble Haidar, the battle begins”.
Haidar is another name used to refer to Ali, whom Shia Muslims consider the first Imam and successor to the prophet Mohammed.
The post was accompanied by a photo of fire raining down on a city.

Exiled prince’s scathing Iran attack
Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has issued a public call for Iranians to rise up and reclaim the country from the current Islamic regime, directly challenging Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Pahlavi. who has lived in exile in the United States since the 1979 revolution. claimed that Khamenei was a “frightened rat” that has retreated from public view in light of recent catastrophic events.
“Now is the time to rise,” Pahlavi said. “The time to reclaim Iran.”
He also urged security forces not to defend the regime.
