Civil War?

You need three things for a democratic republic to function, writes law professor Glenn Harlan Reynolds in the New York Post (19.1.1. )

 

First of all, the elections should be considered fair.

 

Secondly, the candidates and their supporters have to bow before the election results.

 

And thirdly, the winners of the elections should not behave in a manner that leaves the losers in a situation where it becomes a matter of life and death or jail.

The US Democratic Party does not intend to live up to a single one of these conditions, but has instead decided to undermine all three.

 

Democrats have tried for years to sabotage all efforts to ensure that only eligible voters can vote and that the votes are counted correctly.

 

And when it comes to respecting the election results, Democrats have labeled Donald Trump’s 2016 and 2024 election victories as illegitimate. It should be fair to mention that Trump did the same thing in 2020, yet accepted that Joe Biden became president. Democrats, on the other hand, have never considered Trump legally elected.

 

During Trump’s first term as president from 2017 to 2021, Democrats founded a “resistance movement” aimed at getting him removed from office — among other things, based on the freely fabricated claim that his election victory was due to Russian interference.

 

After Trump could enter the White House again in January 2025, Democrats have stepped up their “resistance fight” by claiming that Trump rules like a king. Leading Democratic politicians such as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey are calling on fanatic left-wing activists to violent resistance to law enforcement, whose job is to enforce immigration legislation. The federal police forces are routinely called the Gestapo, and Mayor Frey has banned the city’s own police from providing assistance to federal agents.

 

Thirdly, prominent Democratic politicians have begun threatening Trump’s supporters with penalties the day they are allowed to sit in the congressional majority again. Of course, the opinion is to scare people out of having anything to do with Trump.

 

The threats are not just aimed at the President and his government, but also to lower-ranking officials and employees. F. eks. threatened House Democratic minority leader Hakeem Jeffries in September last year with launching a legal smackdown on Justice Department employees, stressing that the age limit for the alleged crimes is five years, extending beyond the Trump presidency.

 

Last week, Jeffries followed up threats against supposed members of ICE – the police force responsible for apprehending among other things criminal immigrants.

 

In other words, Republicans are wise to prepare for Democratic retaliation on the first opportunity, writes Professor Reynolds, and steps must be expected to be taken to prevent such a grim fate. They are almost forced to.

 

The democrats’ performance threatens to destabilize the American federation in the form of a division between democratically and republican-controlled states.

The last time something similar happened was in 1860, when the democratic slavery supporters dislocated themselves from the slave-free northern states. The result was a lengthy and very bloody civil war.

 

But that might be what today’s Democrats prefer to accept that they lost the November 2024 election.
