“The useful idiots, the leftists, all these professors & civil rights defenders. They’re instrumental in the process of subversion only to destabilize a nation. Political prostitutes. When their job is completed, they’ll be lined up & shot.” ~Yuri Bezmenov
The West’s suicidal empathy on video:
A libturd in NYC yelling about how everyone is welcome, as a Muselmaniac yells “Allahu Akbar!” and uses him as a literal springboard to throw a homemade bomb right over his head.

Another name for this suicidal behavior: “white savior complex”—a well-documented pattern where individuals from privileged, typically Western backgrounds (often white, educated, and secular-left) insert themselves as heroic defenders of a group they perceive as oppressed. Here, the “oppressed” are Islamists—adherents of political Islam who seek to impose sharia-based governance, reject secular democracy, and pursue ideological expansion through groups like the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hezbollah, or their Western sympathizers.
Core mechanics of the syndrome
Leftists exhibiting this do not treat Islamists as equals with full agency, historical responsibility, or coherent ideology. Instead, they recast them as exotic, noble victims of “Western imperialism,” “colonialism,” “racism,” or “Islamophobia.” The leftist then steps in as the articulate, morally superior interpreter and protector: writing op-eds, organizing campus protests, doxxing critics, or chanting slogans that equate criticism of Islamist terrorism with bigotry. This framing lets them claim they alone “understand the context” while dismissing moderate Muslims, ex-Muslims, feminists in Iran or Afghanistan, or gay rights activists in Muslim-majority countries as insufficiently authentic or “Westernized.”
The bragging element is central and performative. Virtue is signaled through:
– Selective outrage: loud condemnation of Israeli self-defense or Western border policies, paired with silence (or excuses) for honor killings, blasphemy executions, gender apartheid, or explicit calls for jihad in Islamist manifestos.
– Narrative control: any pushback is labeled “punching down” or “far-right,” allowing the savior to occupy the high ground without engaging the actual content of Islamist doctrine (supremacist verses, apostasy penalties, martyrdom theology).
– Social rewards: in leftist circles—academia, media, NGOs, social media—this posture earns status as the ultimate anti-racist ally. It costs nothing substantive (the savior rarely lives under sharia) and flatters the ego: “I, enlightened progressive, stand with the marginalized against my own civilization.”
The glaring ideological mismatch that makes it pathological
Classical leftism (rooted in Enlightenment values, feminism, LGBTQ advocacy, atheism, and class struggle) is antithetical to Islamism on nearly every axis: women’s rights vs. mandatory veiling, polygamy, inheritance inequality; gay rights vs. death penalties for homosexuality; secularism vs. theocracy; free speech vs. blasphemy taboos.
Yet the alliance persists because the “savior” dynamic resolves the contradiction: Islamists are exempted from universal standards (“it’s their culture”) while the leftist retains moral authority to judge everyone else. This is not solidarity; it is condescension dressed as empathy. Islamists often accept these useful idiots tactically—using Western free speech to advance positions that would silence dissent if they held power—then discard the alliance once unnecessary.
Why it qualifies as a “syndrome”
It is compulsive and self-reinforcing. Evidence of Islamist illiberalism (polls favoring sharia in many Muslim countries, documented financing of extremism, post-October 7 celebrations of civilian slaughter) is rationalized as “resistance,” “decolonization,” or “blowback.” Real victims—secular Arabs, Berbers, Kurds, Yazidis, Iranian protesters, European women in no-go zones—are ignored or blamed for “provoking” the ideology. The savior cannot afford to notice these realities; doing so would collapse the virtue narrative.
In short, this is not principled anti-imperialism or genuine concern for Muslims as individuals. It is a narcissistic loop: privileged leftists use Islamists as props to perform moral superiority, pat themselves on the back for “punching up,” and avoid applying consistent liberal standards to everyone—including those whose worldview explicitly rejects liberalism. The result patronizes Muslims (denying them the dignity of criticism) and endangers the open societies that enable such posturing. True respect would mean judging ideas by their content, not the identity of their holders.
