6 kilometres from the European Parliament.
The Eyyub Sultan Mosque – 7,000 square metres. Minarets 36 metres high. Capacity for 5,000 worshippers. Library. Education centre. Cultural centre. Conference facilities. Research centre. Parking for 6,000 cars.
When completed it will be the largest mosque in Europe.
And who is paying?
Milli Görüş – a pan-European Turkish Islamist organisation that French intelligence directly linked to the Muslim Brotherhood in a 2025 report. The organisation is described as “powerful and centralised” and its leader as “close to Erdogan” who reportedly meets with him several times a year.
Qatar is also involved in the financing.
And what did Strasbourg’s left-wing mayor do?
She voted to give the mosque 2.5 million euros in municipal funding.
French taxpayers’ money. To an organisation that refused to sign Macron’s anti-extremism charter – the charter that required Muslim organisations to commit in writing to renouncing political Islam and respecting French law.
They refused. And got the money anyway.
France’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin called it directly “foreign meddling on French soil” and attempted to stop it legally.
He failed.
And let us talk about the context.
Milli Görüş was founded in 1969 in Germany by former Turkish Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan – Erdogan’s political mentor. In 1991 Erbakan said to an audience in Ludwigsburg:
“The Europeans are sick. We will give them the medicine. All of Europe will become Islamic. We will conquer Rome.”
That is not a conspiracy theory. It is a documented quote from the organisation’s founder.
Milli Görüş today operates 600 mosques across Europe and 70 in France alone.
And Turkey and Qatar – the primary funders – do not allow Christians to build new churches on their territory. But they finance Islamist-controlled mosques in the heart of Europe.
That is not reciprocity. That is strategy.
And it looks like Europe is in the process of undermining itself.
At least Muslims still build beautiful architecture. There is something to be said for minarets and domes – they point towards something higher and have done so for millennia.
While Europeans are busy tearing their own history up by the roots and replacing cathedrals and architectural heritage with glass facades, concrete blocks and functional architecture without soul – without roots – without anything that reminds us that human beings were made for more than efficiency and consumption.
Perhaps that is why some turn towards Mecca.
At least they have not forgotten that something is sacred
