Duke University School of Medicine’s anti-racism strategic plan says workplace expectations around “timeliness” and wanting people to be on time can privilege whiteness and discriminate against “non-Western and non-white professionalism standards.” The 2021 plan, titled “Dismantling Racism and Advancing Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in the School of Medicine,” was created as part of Duke’s effort to develop an “anti-racist workforce.” Duke medical school Dean Dr. Mary Klotman praised the plan as reflecting the school’s “goals, priorities and strategies.”
