BREAKING: Melbourne imam Samir “Abu Hamza” Mohtadi claims he’s “consistently preached peace” and “unequivocally rejects violence”
He denies ever meeting Flydubai co pilot Hamam al-Hammami or having any record of him at his Multicultural Youth Centre, MyCentre.
UAE authorities say otherwise.
Al-Hammami has confessed that his slide into extremism began in Melbourne in 2017 while studying at RMIT. He regularly attended a mosque affiliated with the university and became acquainted with individuals connected to MyCentre, the centre managed by Mohtadi.
He drew inspiration from 9/11 and planned to crash the plane into Ben Gurion Airport to maximise casualties.
Mohtadi’s response?
Blame the UAE for not calling him first.
He also has form, he previously knew convicted terrorist leader Abdu Nacer Benbrika for around 15 years, described them as close friends, and said he learned a lot about Islam from him.
More recently he has called Zionists “bloodsuckers” and “scavengers,” declared they are “not human,” and prayed for “our mujahideen in Palestine” while calling on Allah to cast terror into their hearts.
And while this was unfolding, the Albanese government kept the taxpayer tap open.
MyCentre’s entity received tens of thousands in federal Home Affairs grants for language programs, money approved and expanded under Labor.
Victorian Labor has also poured hundreds of thousands into related facilities.
Tony Burke has admitted there are “reasonable questions” about the funding.
That’s understatement.
An alleged terrorist pathway traced back to Melbourne, a preacher with a long record of inflammatory rhetoric and terrorist associations, and a Labor government still writing the cheques.
“Social cohesion” looks a lot like wilful blindness from here.
