Germany’s incoming chancellor is facing accusations of betraying voters after bending to the leftist demands on spending and climate to push forward fresh defence spending.

Despite the agenda of the formerly governing Social Democrats (SPD) and the Greens being resoundingly rejected by German voters in last month’s federal elections, the incoming and supposedly centre-right-led government of Christian Democratic Union (CDU) boss Friedrich Merz continues to cave to their demands after rejecting a coalition with the populist right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD)

After the Greens shot down the initial proposals last week, Merz agreed to commit €100 billion of the €500 billion earmarked for infrastructure over the next 12 years to “climate protection.”

DOGE: Department of Labor Cancels $577 Million in ‘America Last’ Grants, Including for ‘Gender Equity in the Mexican Workplace’

Another $12.2 million was for “worker empowerment in South America,” and $6.25 million was for “improving respect for Worker’s rights in agricultural supply chains” in Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador.

The canceled grants were intended for other countries as well, including $3 million for “safe and inclusive work environments” in Lesotho, $3 million to “enhance social security access and worker protections for internal migrant workers” in Bangladesh, $4.3 million for “assisting foreign migrant workers” in Malaysia, and $5 million for “elevating women’s participation in the workplace” in West Africa, per DOGE.

DOGE has continued to uncover waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government. Rumeysa Ozturk among 300 students to be deported for their Gaza advocacy

Deportation for Hamas ‘Activists’ On Student Visas

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested the Turkish national Rumeysa Ozturk, a doctoral student at Tufts University in the Boston area, for supporting Hamas, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Ozturk was “granted the privilege to be in this country on a visa,” a senior spokesperson at the department told JNS. “A visa is a privilege not a right.” 

“Glorifying and supporting terrorists who kill Americans is grounds for visa issuance to be terminated,” the spokesperson added. “This is common sense security.”

Ozturk’s arrest comes as the Trump administration seeks to detain and deport those on student visas partaking in “antisemitic, anti-American activity,” as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping executive order to combat antisemitism.

Ozturk, who is Muslim, was arrested on Tuesday outside her apartment in Somerville, Mass., en route to break the Ramadan fast with her friends, according to a statement from her lawyer, the Associated Press reported.

The grotesquely misnamed Human Rights Watch, among others, has been throwing around claims that Israel has been making illegal use of phosphorus shells in Gaza. Phosphorus is permitted to illuminate the scene of battle but not for use against human targets. Israel has repeatedly denied that it is making illegal use of phosphorus. Now Peter Herby, the head of the mines-arms unit of the International Committee of the Red Cross, has told the Associated Press: 

‘But it’s not very unusual to use phosphorus to create smoke or illuminate a target. We have no evidence to suggest it’s being used in any other way’. In response, the IDF said Tuesday that it ‘wishes to reiterate that it uses weapons in compliance with international law, while strictly observing that they be used in accordance with the type of combat and its characteristics.’ Herby said that using phosphorus to illuminate a target or create smoke is legitimate under international law, and that there was no evidence the Jewish state was intentionally using phosphorus in a questionable way, such as burning down buildings or knowingly putting civilians at risk.

BANGKOK (AP) — Two violent earthquakes rocked Southeast Asia on Friday, causing buildings in the Thai capital Bangkok to sway and collapse and prompting evacuations across the city, as well as in neighboring Myanmar. Bangkok police say a high-rise building under construction collapsed when a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit the Thai capital midday on Friday, and possible casualties are not yet known.

A dramatic video circulated on social media showed the multi-story building with a crane on top collapsing into a cloud of dust, while onlookers screamed and ran.

US hits dozens of Houthi targets in Yemen

US air attacks pounded more than 40 locations across Houthi-controlled parts of Yemen, including in the capital Sanaa.

Multiple residential homes and shops were damaged in the US attacks before dawn on Friday in the provinces of Saada, Marib, al-Jawf and Hodeidah, reported the Houthi-linked Al Masirah TV.

Other targets included the Sanaa International Airport, which is used for both civilian and military traffic.

A stabbing attack in Amsterdam near Dam Square on March 27, 2025, left five people injured, including two Americans. The suspect has been arrested, and the motive for the attack is still under investigation, with authorities considering it may have been random. (‘Mental Health Issues’)

Police say the motive behind the attack is “under investigation” but they are considering the possibility that “the suspect may have chosen people at random.”

A stabbing attack in Amsterdam wounds five people, including four foreigners

AMSTERDAM (AP) — A knife-wielding assailant in Amsterdam seriously wounded five people — including two from the United States, one from Belgium and one from Poland — in a stabbing attack Thursday on a busy shopping street, Dutch police said.

The attack lasted several minutes before the assailant was stopped by a passerby near the city’s Dam Square in the late afternoon. Police cordoned off the area and several ambulances and a trauma helicopter were called to the scene.

Authorities said in a statement that no motive had been established for the attack, but that police were considering a scenario where the man targeted victims at random.

The victims were identified as a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year old man from the United States, a 73-year-old woman from Belgium, a 26-year-old man from Poland and a 19-year old Dutch woman from Amsterdam.
