Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been unexpectedly praised by Beijing for his “strategic autonomy” ahead of a meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping.

An editorial this week by the China Daily, widely seen as a mouthpiece for the ruling Chinese Communist Party, laid bare the country’s feelings about the Australian PM, touting him as a leader president-elect Donald Trump should emulate if he wishes to maintain a relationship between the US and China.

Is there anyone, anyone at all who doesn’t hate these preposterous clowns?

But Trump’s triumph doesn’t just hurt Albanese by highlighting the issues that make him so beatable.

The argument is rich nations allegedly prospered by burning fossil fuels and now need to fund poorer nations to avoid the same path, and cope with the severe heatwaves, floods and storms fuelled by global heating and already here. “Climate reparations” have consequently been demanded. Trump has pledged to once again withdraw the U.N. from the landmark Paris climate agreement.
